system advice

I have a 1999 standard cab f150. I'm thinkin about putting in a small system. Right now I only have a crappy pair of pioneer speakers. I think I want to put in two 10" subs, a better pair of speakers, a new head unit, and an amp. I've got 8 or 9 inches behind the seat to put the subs in and found some cheap truck boxes that would fit. I'm lookin to spend around 200 on the subs, 200 on the head unit (hopefully mp3), and get a decent amp. I've looked around this forum and found a lot of different opinions, rockford, infinity etc... any suggestions?

well first off stay the **** away from boss. if you get serius with one the bass will make your cds skip and often play part of another track. pioneer and sony are good choices for the head unit but pioneer 3 way's are excellent speakers. sub wise you should dl winisd (linearteam.org) and design your box in there. you can use it to get some pretty powerfull sound out of a small box with mild speakers.

tried to post last night but FTE gave me a server busy error so i had time to look for a few mp3 players. if u can up ur budget to about $300, u have a lot of choices. here are the ones i found:
Pioneer DEH-P4500MP - $199
Pioneer DEH-P5500MP - $239
Kenwood KCD-MP522 - $249
Alpine CDA-9807 - $297
Alpine CDA-9811 - $329

i suggest the one of the alpines, i have one and its such a nice unit with many features, if u just wanna base line MP3 player then go with the cheap pioneer. stay away from AWIA, Sony Xplod and Jensen MP3 players (well Jensen and Xplod anything)

as far as the subs, i would suggest one 10" sub, which will be plenty of bass to fill the cab and still get u more space. id take a look at the K series from Elemental Designs (www.edsignaudio.com), the new Pioneer subs look promising also, as do Infinity Reference or Alpine Type-S.

for speakers, component speakers would be a good option or a good set of co-triaxles (2=co/3=triway). Pioneer makes good speakers, so does Infinity, MB Quart, Boston Acoustics...just to name a few...if u wanna go the comp. set route then Diamonds M3 line, Infinity Reference, MB Quart...

how much u lookin to spend on an amp(s)?

thanks for the information. I had a pioneer cd player in my ranger and i really liked it even though it was an older model. For speakers i have some pioneer ones that would probablly sound better off a good head unit, but i'll still get some new ones. I've had a lot of time looking at subs, and I will try to find the best one. My friend has visonik and I don't think they sound that bad, but I don't think I want them. I did have a look at some of those pioneers and was considering that but I'll check out the other ones. as far as amps go I don't know anything about them, enough to even start to look for one. I don't want to spend a whole lot on them, just enough to power the sub(s) that I get. But I don't even know what to look for in an amp. Thanks again for the advice, I really appreciate it.

Hey I had that error code last night also.... Since you don't know what to look for in an amp I would map everything out first. Get you HU and speakers set then look at what sub you want. The amp to me is the easiest.
