Chevy motor mounts

Has anyone used the motor mounts from Mid Fifty that connects to the frame for a SCB? I,m looking to change the motor mount out in my 56 because when i drop the front the cross member will hit the axle. I have a th350 trans. if these motor mounts will go right in i can do the drop with lowering springs and drop axle. Thanks HaroldMac

What type mount do you have now; a tubular type that goes clear across?

Are you going to do drop-springs AND a drop axle? How low are you looking to go? What are you doing in the rear to match that much drop?

yes the mount looks like a home made deal and goes all the way across. I was planning on going with the down and forward springs, but if i go forward it will set the cross member on the axle.So i was looking to do away with the cross member all together. I want the truck to be very low. For the rear end i was going to put rear end on top of springs and remove every other spimg or replace and c-notch. Thanks for any help on this

Can you link to the Mid-Fifties mounts you're considering? If they are what I think, they would eliminate your interference.

not sure i know how to link something here, still learning this. Bit its the chevy engine side mounts item #4402 on page 84 of their catalog. Sorry best i can do right now. But it does away with the cross member all together. AXracer on this forum told me about them. Not sure how many of these truck he has done but he sure knows his stuff on them. Thanks again. Do you see any issues with my plans on the lowering process?

Some on here are never happy about a chevy in a Ford. Mine also had a 350 in it when I got it. They are good motors so mine is still in my 52 Ford and I don't apologize to anybody. It is mine as yours is yours and nobody can tell us what to do to our own trucks. As you will find, there are quite a few on here with SBC's in their trucks. I made my own motor mounts and welded them to the MII cross. I have a 700R4 in mine.

I probably could build some but Mid Fifty has the set for $100 with the rubber mounts and bolts, I will have to cut the one of of mine now. I think that will be the biggest issue. I hope. I wanted a running project and going to try to keep it where its not down long periods of time. Once i get the cross member out of the way i hope i,m on my way. Plans are front disc kit, Power steering with Toyota box ( if i can find one). Always wanted to drop a nice ride and i think these truck look awesome sitting on the ground.

Hey Harold,
Welcome Aboard! I like your idea of trying to minimize the amount of down time by taking on smaller projects. We went the other route & tore it all apart - took 2 years to get it back together with a lot of help.

I haven't used those mounts (actually just made a set for my 289 today), but they are quite common and I have seen them (or others just like them) in several vehicles. A good basic design.

Hal mack's current engine mount is a homemade (hacked) affair made from the original rear engine mount crossmember moved forwards with scrap metal "stalks" welded (gobbed actually) on. It hangs low and is placed just ahead of the axle. He wants to use the down and forward springs, but the axle may contact the crossmember when moved forward. I suggested the side mount engine mounts that MF sells since they bolt in and eliminate the crossmember all together. This has been a common CSB mounting arrangement in many applications for many years.

yes that would be them. I will let you know how well it goes. just getting rid of the mess that holds the engine now will be the issue.
