The plastic tailgate panel has fallen off, I have tried to reattach it with self taping screws...which did not work as there is very little metal to adhere to.
I have also tried heavy duty double sided foam tape. Which worked well for a few months, but the rain and sun have caused it to come loose.
How do I permanently re-attach this panel, and still have it look good? Or better yet, where can I find a new one, have thought about going to the bone yard, but I think when I yank it off the plastic clips will break and I will be back to square one.
I would think the same double sided tape that holds the side molding on is what would work best. I've been told that body shops can get a higher grade 3M double sided molding tape that can practically peal paint off if you try to remove it. Might check out a body shop and see what they have.
I agree with DIYiT I have used a good 3M tape for this type of repair side mouldings etc. I got it from a friend at a body shop but the told me it could be purchased at a paint and body supply store. You could probably find it online as well if you don't have a local store. With proper prep (wax and grease remover) and moderate temperature it shouldn't ever come off.
