My 88 7.3's temp gauge does not work. It stays and cold and only moves when starting, the gauge moves to normal when cranking and when the engine fires is goes back to cold and doesn't move. I pulled the wire off the sending unit for the gauge and grounded it and it moved to hot. I did the same thing to the temp light wire and the needle went to hot but the light on the dash did not come on. Also the high idle never turns off it idles at around 900 unless the physical push the plunger down but then when I hit the pedal its back up to 900 rpm could any of the sensors have anything to do with it? Thanks in advance.
Sounds like the engine coolant temperature sensor/sending unit to me.
I just bought a '91, the gauge on mine doesn't work but the high idle shuts and the gauge sweeps so not too sure what is going on there.
My wire connection came out of that coolant temp sensor, can I just plug theses two connectors back in? Does it matter which connector goes in which slot of the sensor terminal? The two plugs leaning on the hose clamp.
