This IDI any good?
I have been searching around for a while in want of a truck, i found this 1993 ford f250 4x4 diesel
Im assuming it doesnt run because a lack of transmission fuid. How hard would the front input seal of the transmission be to fix, i would like to drive her away instead of haul.
Thanks
even if it does just need a seal, its an all day job to get to it, and i don't know if he wants you pulling the tranny out of it in his driveway.
IMHO, 2800 for a truck that has significant odds of needing the tranny rebuilt for 2-3k doesn't sound like a good deal
it's very easy to see if just a seal is required.bring some mercon or mercon V with ya.
(id grab mercon, cus its cheaper, and flush full of mercon v after seal replacement.) and a trans funnel.
top it up if it's not already, being careful not to over fill it and go for a drive.
if she shifts through all the gears nicely, and the rest of the truck is solid and seems worth the $,then drive or tow 'er home (depending on how bad the leak is/how close home is.)
you can get good deals like this, because some people can't do mechanic work and to pay to have this done, could be 1/4 to 1/2 or more the trucks value he's probably thinking.
she's a heavy beast, but all you need is a floor jack and some blocking.a few wrenches and some swearing for a day,and you can handle it no problem if your an average shade tree mechanic.
the updated little bugger right here:
http://www.transmissionpartsusa.com/...-000026401.htm
im partial to the '92-94's idi's cus;
1.9th gen styling.
2.3g alternator w/serp belt. mid yr '92+
3.2nd gen sterling '93+
4.earlier e40ds failure prone and not the best ecms.
5.optional turbo blocks '93-94. (beefed up internals.)
6.perfect base truck for direct swap over to 94-97 7.3l psd if desired.
7.massive aftermarket part selection to chose from for this body style.
probably more im missing.
i don't see me passing that truck up,if i was looking just as long as she's solid where it counts.
if the trans slipped when full of juice,id make an offer that prepared me to set a fresh $2k e40d in it.
