My truck recently started to billow a bluish/white/grey smoke. It happens real bad when the go peddle is just off of the completely released position.
For example,
if I am going down a hill on the highway, and I accelerate, there is no smoke. If I completely release the accelerator and decelerate, there is no smoke, but if I hold the pedal just very slightly down so as to maintain a constant speed while going downhill, she smokes like a freight train.
The truck is an all stock, manual that has about 110k on it and has always been well maintained.
About a year ago I replaced all the return fuel lines and o rings, and there are no fuel leaks visible on the motor.
I just went and tried a tank of new fuel with that fuel conditioner in there and she still smokes like crazy. It feels like it is cutting in and out while it does that as well.
Are there any ways to for sure diagnose this as a pump issue?
I'd hate to swap that out and still have the same problem
agreed,it sounds like you got a bad does of fuel.starts to get more common this time of year.make sure to drain the water trap often.
grab a bottle of this and give her a good dose: http://www.powerservice.com/d911/
did your water in fuel light come on? flicker or steady? did it test to make sure its working before winter yet?
TO REMOVE WATER AND PREVENT FUEL-FILTER ICING: Refer to the table below to determine the amount of Diesel 911 to add to your fuel. For biodiesel blends containing a maximum of 20% biodiesel (B20), add two times the amount of additive listed below:
Gallons of Diesel Fuel to Treat Ounces of Additive Required
40 gallons 16 ounces
100 gallons 32 ounces
250 gallons 80 ounces
Ya kinda jerks when you get back into the throttle? Exactly what mine was doing, a local diesel mechanic told me what broke inside (educated guess) but i cant remember what he said it was. IIRC something to do with the metering valve and or transfer pump and getting air into the pump.
