Did he put a lot of gasoline in it? You might be able to pump it out, fill with diesel and open the filter drain, run the fuel pump to clear the lines. Then change the filter.
But 30+ gallons is a whole lot to pump out.
he actually only put about 7 gals in, i am thinking open the line and pump it out , then diesel, just so it dosen't mix! I am worried about the gasoline in the injectors?!?!?!
the real problem is, he is a broke a$$ dummy , i knew better then to loan him my truck!

You don't need to drop the tank. Pump the gas/diesel out and keep it for your lawn mower or chain saw. What you can not get out from sucking it out of the fill tube will be fine to leave in the tank. Fill truck back up to full with diesel to dilute what is there and just run it. It may run 'funny' for a tank or two but it will fine.
My neighbor filled his OBS Powerstrike with gasoline and drove it 20 miles or thereabouts. It ran like crap the entire time ans wouldn't make any power.
The dealer wanted to replace everything on the fuel system. He and one of his buddies who is supposedly a mechanic drained the tank, drained all of the fuel from the fuel lines and ran the fuel pump until clean fuel filled the bowl. Then replaced the filter filled the tank with clean diesel and its been fine ever since (several years of hard driving).
How much diesel do you think there is in the tank?
If you are just up to a total of 1/2 tank or less, add a 1/2 gallon or so, of 2 cycle and fill up with diesel.
wow thanks for all the info , he told me he only went about 10 miles before it freaked him out and shut it down, said it would not make any power. I am feeling better about not having killed him once he paid the tow bill! will let you all know how it goes ! you all rock!

I hope that you and your friend can 'make up'. You sounded very pissed at him (we all understand when it comes to our babies) and it may have been more of your fault, as was there enough fuel in the truck for his usage? was he putting fuel in it for his usage as 'thank-you? Now you know to never let anyone fuel your truck but yourself. Forgive him for being a dumb puck and keep him away from the fuel pumps. Have some beers together (don't drive) and chalk it up to a lesson learned.
Pumping out and refilling is the solution. Once you've refilled with diesel, drain your fuel filter housing before starting the engine to remove more gasoline from the fuel system ahead of the injectors. Once you've pumped a little bit of diesel through the fuel system, I would also change the fuel filter just for additional peace of mind, but only AFTER pumping some diesel through the old one first. Adding a little 2-cycle is also a great idea.
My own personal experience was when my 18yo son went to fill up the wife's Excursion the night before I was heading out of town for several days (at about 11:00 pm). He put in about 30 gallons of gasoline on top of about 12-13 of gallons of diesel. He started the vehicle and realized within 30 seconds what he had done and shut it down and called me. I met him at the station and we drove the Excursion about 200 yards into an adjacent parking lot. We had no choice but to pump the tank all the way down (you can use your own imagination as to how we did that and what we did with the fuel... I'll not admit to anything in that regard).
I had a 5-gallon can of diesel in my truck, and we put those 5 gallons in and then pumped another 10+ gallons from my truck's tank into the Excursion's tank. I also added a heavy dose of Schaeffer fuel additive, and we then went and filled up both the Excursion and F250 with diesel (and my 5-gallon emergency can). I replaced the Excursion's fuel filter when we got home (roughly 12:30 am).
RESULT... not even a single hiccup with the Excursion... ever!
