Is there a difference between cabs on f100, f150, f250, and f350's if they are all regular cab long box trucks? The year im looking at is 1977. Also do the cabs swap between years?
Front cab mounts are the same the rear mounts on some F350's & F250 (highboy) have the narrower frames so you mite have to adjust for the rear mount holes to put a cab off one of them onto a F100/150. Also some wiring plugs vary.
I've delt with a few cab swaps over the years. I always try to use 77-79 cabs just for the A/C, electronic ignition & once in a while I get a tilt steering colum in the mix.
I want to move a F150 supercab (78/79) from it's frame to a 4WD std cab frame. is this possible? (the donor is a 2WD and I want 4WD).
I've read that 2WD to 4WD conversion is a major pain, so.... what about just swapping CABS? Is this an easier route
I've read (here on the forum and elsewhere) that the F250 frames are narrower than the F150 frames.
So if the donor Supercab came from a F150, there would be some work making mount locations for the Cab. (yes?)
So, would it be better to find a 4WD (std cab with long bed) frame to move the 2WD supercab over?
I have found a great 78 f-750 flatbed in Nebraska for $500. Is the cab the same size as a 250 or 350? I have a 76 150 that i would trade and get a lwb 250 or 350 and put the cab on iI need some help. I made the mistake of selling my 78 f-250 Crew shortbox a few years ago and have wanted another one since. I cannot afford to pay what an original one is worth so it looks like i am going to build one. I have found a 78 f-700 Crew with a great body. It is a 2wd flatbed and i can get it for $500. I have a 92 12 valve Cummins to drop in it but i wan't a 4wd and i don't want what i assume is the terrible ride of a 700. Any suggestions. Thought if i could find a 350 or 250 lwb 4wd, take the box off, put the crewcab to it and either lengthen the frame enough to put a short box on or even make a short flatbed. Need it to be able to haul gooseneck trailers. Have tons of questions, the first and most important being, are the cabs, hoods, ect. on the 700 the same as 250 and 350 or are they larger. Is it possible to drop a 4wd front under the 700?? If so, i could lighten the springs to suit me once i got the engine and all done. Any answers or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Robert Jones pha7env@yahoo.comt if it will work. Then shorten a bed to fit what is left, or either lengthen the frame a little for a standard short box. My other option is to leave the 750 like it is and figure a way to put a 4wd front under the 750. If i get the body done, i have a 12 valve Cummins to drop in it for power. I am looking to make a daily drive/gooseneck hauler. thanks, Robert Jones pha7env@yahoo.com
Yea it's definitely possible. I just got done doing the same thing. I took an f150 2wd supercab and an f350 single cab 4x4, both long bed and put the supercab body on the single cab frame. Its a pretty straight forward build, but you will have to use the super cab rear cab mounts and either add a two inch body lift or cut a hole in the supercab floor board to fit over the frame (that's what I did). Let me know if you want me to post pics.
Front cab mountain are the same the rear mounts on F350's & F250's have the narrower frames so you mitegheto to redrill the rear mount holes to put a cab off one of those onto a F100/150.
What in the he!! are you talking about? Doesn't make a bit of sense. Plus, your spelling and lack of punctuation makes it hard to read the post. I usually don't critique members spelling, but in this case...
Narrow (33 1/2") rear frame rails are behind the cab: 1973/77 F250 4WD (High Boys) / 1973/79 F350's on the 140" wheelbase.
ALL other 1973/79 F100/350's have wide (37 1/2") rear frame rails behind the cab.
33 1/2 vs 37 1/2: The distance is measured between the inner rear frame rails behind the cab.
High Boys use a different frame, so the cab mounts are in a different location.
Oh, and if you're going to stick with a pickup bed, you'll have to cut a 22" section out of the bed in front of the fender wells. You'll lose the front gas tank also
ND.... UM..... Yeah... Ok. Yeah guess I was just going on what I remember after useing a 78 F350 cab on my 76 F150 & redrilled the holes for the F150 frame.
It's my Damn retarded smart phone that can't spell & adds words. I saw it later but forgot to edit it.
PB, i have searched for messages and membership for "Redneckanyhow" and am lost. The membership list is very hard to go through but i think i did it right, and found no such member. Could it be spelled a different way? Can you help. Thanks!! Robert:
