Ice/Snow on Back-up Sensor

Last night I backed my truck up to allow another family member to leave, and the back-up sensor alarm started beeping, like it does when the tail-gate is down and backing up.

The truck had not been driven on Christmas day, but it had rained and snowed lightly (dusting), then the temp dropped to 20 degrees.

Can a light dusting/ice cause the sensor to react the same as a close object. I think it does, just trying to confirm.

Yes. Happens to my truck all the time up here in Michigan. Same thing happens to my other vehicles with backup sensors as well.

Heavy enough rain can cause mine to go off.

Yes, ice build up will cause them to alert.
At least we have the option to turn them off when this happens.

My alarm goes off all the time, no matter what. Only time it's quiet is when I have a trailer hooked up. The system drives me crazy but I like the camera a lot. I wish I could just disable the whole thing and just have the camera.

My sensors work fine. They get road dust, dirt snow, etc and work good still it seems. I love them. Between the back up camera and the sensors it's the cat's meow.

I'm on the fence with you on this one, Joel. I drag a small 12' long single axle, 3500# capacity utility trailer a lot. It doesn't have trailer brakes. I am constantly having to turn off the back-up beeper. It's annoying to deal with 8-10 times a day. I wish I could turn it off and it would stay off until I turned it back on (until I would forget to turn it on and back into something). Or, I wish I knew what to hook up to the truck to make it think this little trailer had trailer brakes, thereby recognizing that there is supposed to be something there. I tried wiring in an LED clearance light to the brake plug in the seven pole plug, but that didn't help. Need something with more ohms, I'm a-thinkin'.

Love the camera. Wish I could turn it on at will tho. Man, there sure are a lot of wishes in my post. Maybe I should be happy with what I have.

I had the same problem yesterday loading firewood in mine, when I would back up to the house I would have to shut it off every time because I left the tailgate down... Maybe if I leave the truck running then I wouldn't have to keep resetting it? My biggest gripe is the rear view camera, I wish there was a way to turn it on by itself without putting truck in reverse so I can look at loads on trailer while going down the road?? And we should all be so fotunate that we can shut the back up sensor off, my chevy I just got rid of would not shut off by the switch half the time... At least when we click to off and push OK it works!

My 10 foot doesn't stop the sensors either even using a 7 pin converter.
It's looking for that trailer brakes signal wire.

It only takes a second to turn it off though with the basic screen; one push of the bottom button.

It resets each time you shift to reverse.

EDIT: Actually, maybe it doesn't re-enable without shutdown.....

Yep, defaults to active when you cycle the ignition, same as the traction control.

I can turn my on or off just have to have the correct key (master key) and it becomes an option in my dash cluster screen. Hope this helps.

Ron, How about making a pigtail for the 7 pin connector with a brake magnet on it - that's what the system is normally looking for anyways.

Tom, I think a Lockpick system would allow you to turn on the camera when you want rather than when Ford wants you to see it.
