rear AC without engine????

Im wondering if it would be possible to run the rear air without the engine? Does the rear system share the engine compressor or does it have its own compressor. It would be nice when hauling if I could hook up my car trailer generator and run the rear AC so I can sleep in the back wothout getting so hot. thanx in advance I have a 2001 Excursion Limited Powerstroke

It uses the same compressor - which won't produce any cold air w/o the engine running.

Also, you have to set the front climate system to A/C in order for the back to get cold air too. Rear has it's own condenser, which drips down onto the
exhaust of my PSD, and always looks like I have water coming out my exhaust when I park somewhere.

To have an air conditioner you will need to drive a compressor. The X engine drives the A/C unit for the vehicle.
The window units in a house are driven by electricity.
The only viable unit for a window (if you could find on that small) would be electrically driven. You going to plug up to a house?

There are window fans made for cars that are solar powered but they don't cool the air.

I found the secret clue.....
" if I could hook up my car trailer generator and run the rear AC so I can sleep in the back wothout getting so hot"

I personally would just stay in a hotel which offers free breakfast, air conditioning, and a bathroom .
But when I was young I slept in my firebird's backseat ONE night and learned a valuable leason. :

Well if that is the case, mount the A/C unit on the car trailer and use flexible ducting to move the cold air to the window.

this in true in most cases, but when you want to stop for just a few hours to rest and you are dragging a 24 foot car trailer behind a 19 foot truck the hotel/motels can be a hassle. Plus I know my truck is clean. I have a rule never to stay in a hotel with less then 3 floors which also means >$100 rooms. the last motel 8 I checked in to they actually gave me a room that some one had peed in the bed. it was rediculous, I was so mad I just about went over the counter when the guy told me I was wrong and the room was fine. I dragged his sorry butt to the room to show him the wet mattress and smell the whatever it was "freshener" they tried to cover it up with. I am also not crazy about leaving my car in a trailer in a hotel parking lot, I would rather sleep close so no-one can mess with my stuff. each his own I guess, Ive learned to live with my paranoia

this seems reasonable, It would also allow me to cool the trailer when I want to work in there. Ive seen small wheel around AC units, I just thought there might be an even smaller one out there. Im definitely not talking about redneck engineering a house window unit onto my X

I've never really understood how wheel around A/C units work. The compressor/condensor side of the unit gives off major heat..

Wheel around Evaporative Coolers I've got... and in Arizona they work favorably (unless during Monsoon).

I've no idea what your car trailer looks like. But if you did mount a regular house A/C unit (or put in an RV style roof mount) then you'd just have to build some form of air distribution panel or something.

The whole idea would be fun to try and fab up!

There is a duct hose you have to run outside. When mine is set on a/c the heat blows out the duct but I can set it for heat and it blows cold through the duct to outside.

This is a 5000 btu that is 26x16x13 inches. Just have to figure out the exaust and drain for the evaperator.

The audio says that the ice coolers are NOT swamp coolers (evaporative) so they do not raise the humidity level.

Then that would be a better option.
