I have a Mac medium barrel that I got about 15years ago. It still works well. You do need to size the tool to the job, though. Short, medium and long barrel all have their own place in the shop. I got a medium because it will work in the widest range of situations. Also get an actual locking collar for it, the normal spring collar does not retain the tool under certain situations and can lead to an unguided missile heading across the shop.

thanks jared, dads got a hammer but im unsure of brand, its usa made. it uses that retarded spring retainer. i cant count how many times i have had to go find the damn chisel after it launched off. so the new quick release is a must!

no real need at the moment for one, so its hard to gauge what size to get. but in the past i have used them to break out cement, cut bolts, etc.

I have a snap on ph2050 it does a pretty good job not quite as powerful as their 3050 though. The quick release chuck is a must for me.

I have the big Snap On air hammer with the quick release chuck. I haven't come across a more powerful air hammer yet. My apprentice bought one, but he doesn't have any bits yet. Everyone else borrows mine when theirs won't cut it.

i have a 30 year old ingersoll medium barrel that still works fine. i use mostly to break rotors loose from the hub, so i don't have to worry about the tool flying away with the spring retainer.
if i was to use it for exhaust work i would most likely go for a quick release tool. but for my use this one is good enough.

I/R makes the best but I didn't know if they are still made in USA. Whatever brand you buy, do not pull the trigger unless the tool is solidly against the work piece. Doing so will allow the internal piston slam into the front head and shorten its life drastically. This is what causes the tool to fly out of the retainer.
I have repaired many tools with broken pistons and/ or heads from running free.
