Replacing just the lower portion of the gate is not exactly advisible as the rust along the lower portion of the gate begins on the inside and comes out. The outer skin of the gate is not the only area compromised when this happens. The inner wall of the gate where it is seamed and folded in with the outer sheet metal will be compromised as well and a patch panel will suffer the same fate as the original outer skin if not supproted by the inner gate metal or if resting against the rusty remnants of it.
This is not to say that folks haven't repaired just the outer sheet metal but its rare that its the only problem if the area has rusted through or shows signs of bubbling paint.
I took some pictures of it but don't know how to attach them.
I has a little "lip" at the bottom and on each side. It is approximately 67 1/16" wide and 9 2/8" tall. (I state that because I was curious about it myself).
It is part number 49-8334 in the link below.
The part is labeled as being for a 1980-86 but the book below says it'll work for my 1990. Some research on different websites also indicates that it should fit my 1990.
The sticker label states that it is 1mm gauge thickness.
