Brake Controller
I am looking at buying a 03-07 F250 PSD because I need to tow 10K right now.
Do these models F250's come with a trailer brake controller? Or will I have to install one?

Wiki says after 2005 they were available...

although it makes it sound like an option, so the particular truck you look at may not have one.

Please buy a proportional brake controller.
A very good value brake control is the Tekonsha Prodigy P2. You can find them for around $100.00-120.00 with the pigtail you will need to connect directly to the Truck.
Pretty much anything from Tekonsha is top shelf stuff. I have an older Tekonsha Voyager and it does great.
Check eBay and a few other retailers for the best prices. I think camping world sells them too.
Please stay away from time based brake controls. They are an accident waiting to happen. Especially at 10k lbs.

You also want to look at the load capacity of the F250 vs the F350.
There have been a few cases where the truck and trailer combined
weight was over the limit of the F250 with out even putting a driver in.
Would really suck to have it right at the gross weight and not have
any personal items or passengers.
So be sure to check the Curb Weight and the Gross Vehicle Combined Weight
to make sure your not over. You don't want to have to deal with some
DOL cop and worry about having to get a weight of the rig. Not knowing
if your over or not before.

BTW, pretty sure Tekonsha makes the Ford controller.

If you go the aftermarket route go with a prodigy. They have the best aftermarket proportion. The number of axles is selectable and they have diagnosis on them. IMO best aftermarket controller on the market.

I have a line on an 04 F250 PSD that has had the heads, studs and delete done.
I don't yet know about the oil cooler or if it has a trailer brake controler.
I won't be out of this work camp until 12th so can't buy until then.
Will post further results.

You may give Kurt a call and see if they have or know a dealership up there.
You may get lucky and get a deal that way. I did some looking and my
truck had been listed up that way last year before I got it.
If I was setup for the cold weather and long distance driving I may even
thing of a little trip myself. I have family in up there.

I used a Tekonsha P2 when towing my car hauler behind my F150. I just bought my F250 with integrated tow brake controller, so I will have to report back on how well it works compared to the Tekonsha, but the Tekonsha was absolutely worth every penny.
Can anyone verify this? Would be great news if true.
