EGR

The other day on my way home from work (160 miles from home) my truck lost all power, so I plugged in my scangauge and the code p0404 popped up. I called my mechanic and he told me to tap on the egr to try and free it. Tap tap tap and nothing. So I made the thirty minute mile long ride to the nearest auto parts store and bought the proper tools to pull the egr, I cleaned the hell out of it and put it back in. Back in business, truck has more power than I can remember.

So I'm asking should I get the "bulletproof" egr or did I fix the problem by cleaning the stuck egr? I cleared to code 300 miles ago and it hasn't come back.

Thanks for reading and happy holiday's

Personally, I would do the delete. The EGR is a pain. If you do keep it, I would recommend cleaning it every 5000K with the oil change. but I would go the delete route. With the delete though, You will need some sort of tuner to get rid of the code. But the truck runs awesome with the delete mod.

I bought my 05 new and have never cleaned the egr and never had a problem with it as many others here can also claim.
