04-Expedition transmission trouble by water
I have an o4 expedition that has only about 40K miles on it and i have done regular maintenance like oil change etc very well kept.
On oct 30, we had a presidentially declared national disaster hurricane in my area, from which flood water put the wheels almost under water.
The next day I tried driving the truck and it worked for a bit but i noticed Transmission slipping -never happend before.
I then drove it to the mall, and on the way back, it kept slipping and suddenly no more catching the gears! But luckily Reverse works, so i reversed safely to call AAA towing.
I left the truck till now and wondering if the Transmission can be spoilt due to that water, without effecting the engine?
I noticed oil pool under the car so the transmission oil is all leaked out for sure as I checked the dip stick dry. I put fresh oil but no help.
If I call my insurance company im wondering if they wont help me saying how come your engine is still good, so you spoit the transmission by other means.
Does anyone know what the cause of the transmission failure is? Could it be due to the water? Or could something else be the cause?
Thanks

Call your Insurance Company! The damage was/is caused by water and should be covered by the Comprehensive portion of your policy.
The clutches in the trans have the friction material glued on with a water soluable glue and water causes the material to be released from the steel plates. You should have no problem getting this settled.

Put in an insurance claim and take it to a Ford dealer to get a factory trans.
My daughter went swimming in her Scion a couple of years ago and hydro-locked the engine. Insurance covered the new engine no problem.
