Welcome to FTE

This valve has been a notorious POS since day one, I kid you not!

E5TZ-9189-B .. Fuel Tank Selector Valve - 6 ports / Marked: E57B-9F271-BA or E67B-9F271-AA / Available from Ford.

MSRP: $319.85 // FTE Ford Dealer Parts Dept sponsor tousleyfordparts.com price: $211.10 / Tousley Ford ~ White Bear Lake MN

1985/86 E/F250/350 6.9L Diesel / 1985/86 F250/350 300 I-6 & 351W/460 (All over 8,500 lbs. GVWR) / 1986 E150 302 // 1985/86 Ranger 2.8L V6.

Part number/application sources: 1980/89 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog.

I can decode your VIN/Codes printed on the Certification Label, but there's no code that denotes a Camper Special (C/S), no matter what year it is.

All 1965 and later C/S's were available as a Cab & Chassis or came with 8' beds. 1977 was the first year C/S's were available with 4WD.

I've never heard of, or seen an 8 1/2' bed on any Ford truck. Longest beds offered: 1956/66 F350's were available with 9' Express Flareside & Styleside beds.

I think I got that mixed up with the GM/Chevy trucks. I thought they did make a camper special with a 8 1/2 bed. I think I knew a guy who had a 1969. Unless I am remembering that wrong also.

1967/72's have a 131" wheelbase w/a 8' Styleside bed, the longest available (I bought a 1968 F250 new). All the parts (except one) that made up the Camper Special (C/S) package could be ordered on other trucks.

Placed inside the glovebox at final assembly was a pigtailed wire harness/plug used with camper clearance lamps. The specific to C/S only taillamp harness had an extra feed wire for this to plug into.

This extra feed wire is the ONLY way to verify if a truck is a C/S or not. C/S introduced in 1965 F100/250, 1967 F350.

Can you still get the selector switch for around the same price? I have one on my 1986 F250 (460) that is starting to go bad. Half the time when I flip the switch to the rear tank the selector won't switch over and the truck stops getting fuel.

I wouldn't trust the RA site. This is what the pump looks like on the airtex site:

Tom, I can take a picture of the mechanical pump on my truck.
It DOES have a third (return) port on it.

Depends on where you buy it, how quickly you need it, what the shipping charges to ID will be.

Bill, what's your experience with the aftermarket valves versus the OEM Ford ones?

I'm tempted to go for the Ford valve just because I wouldn't have to change anything, but I don't relish spending ~$230 on one either.

Aftermarket ones are ~$80 and figure about 2-3 hours of cutting and fiddling to go with that at least.

My problem is you can hear the switch try to move from one tank to the other but then you don't get any fuel from either tank. I assume that it's sticking on the primary tank and not moving to the secondary since you can hear the electric pump running in the rear tank even though it's not getting fuel.

I would add that the problem seems to be intermittent and doesn't always occur.

I'll take your word for it. I was mainly interested in if it really did or not in case my selector valve dies.
If it does, and if it's possible to do it, I'd consider removing the two in tank pumps and installing a mechanical pump and a manual selector valve.

Tom,
The red (3/8") line is the feed
The green (5/16") is the return
The hard line is obviously the carburetor feed.

Sorry for the photo.
I guess I haven't cleaned the engine all winter.
Hopefully I'll R&R the leaky P/S pump soon.

I haven't a clue inre to an aftermarket valve, never even seen one. When you're a Ford partsman, you don't sell aftermarket parts.

Fair enough. Do you know what the cost would be with shipping to zip code 83835?

How would I know? See my signature, it says Retired. I haven't sold this jazz since 8/1997. I just look the numbers up/post the info. Call the sources I listed and ask them.

How do you test the in dash selector switch? Is it just a open/closed circuit? I haven't had it apart yet, just want to know if mine is bad or head right to the 6 port selector? My back tank has alot of varnish-y smelling gas. For whatever reason, some a-whole stole the cap, it now runs out the side when cornering, so it must be adding more to that tank.
