Some people may think I'm a lil bit nuts for wanting to do this. I have a 1978 F150 SC shortbed with dual tanks with a 400 that I want to convert to 4x4. I have at my disposal a 1979 Bronco frame with a 460 and a 1979 F250 SC Long bed 2wd Camper special Frame with a 460 is also available for creating what I think is going to be one fine Looking truck. A 1978 F150 SC Short bed 460 powered 4x4 with dual tanks.
1- Should I lengthen the Bronco Frame?
2- Shorten the F250 frame and convert it to 4x4 (this way i can get the frame work done without having to disassemble the F150 yet)
3- remove the front clip on the F150 and modify the crossmember from the Bronco to Fit the narrower frame for the F150 and use the stock 460 motor mounts from the F250. Also modify the F150 frame for the Steering box relocation.
I'm not saying to use the 250 frame but i would check that out first if i was doing it . I'm not sure which is best , at least you have some chassis to choose from.
i wouldn't shorten down the short bed either i would shorten and adapt the bronco bed and topper to where it fit together and look like a supercab bronco it is one of the things my brother in law has planned it is gonna be awesome i think kinda like this........ and the only thing i smoke is tires......
