i have seen all these problems i am about to describe in one thread or another but they happened within a week of each other so i thought i would start a new thread anyway. 1997 f150 4.6l coil pack and wires not cop. (i think in 1997 only the 5.4 was cop but i could be wrong) ok to start with the oil light would come on and the gauge(i use that term loosely) would bottom at low rpm's. replaced the sender and now it works just fine. then when driving to work i lost heat and the temp gauge pegged and coolant spewed out the cap. after reading it on this forum i flushed the heater core and puting some bars head gasket fix and have not had a problem since. ok now for the head against wall frustrating part. it started running like crap. really bad when taking off from a stop light. pulled the easiest plug and it looked worn and had a really wide gap. when i say worn it looked like someone cut a 45 degree angle at the end of the side electrode. replaced plugs and wires and my hands look like i got into a fight with a badger. it ran better at higher rpm's but still hesitated and sputtered when taking off from stop lights. i called a friend who owns a scanner and he asked me if i ran a k and n air filter i said yes. he said throw the k&n away and clean your maf sensor. I cleaned the mass air flow with some crc electronics cleaner, installed a paper air filter and now it runs like it was new. still have my check engine light on I will re-post when i have my truck scanned. this is just my experiance with this truck. this post was not meant in anyway to say that my fixes are the be all end all to all truck fixes.
