There is a "caulk" bead within the rain gutter of the cab and at the union of the firewall and floor pan on our 1966 F-100. Are they the same material? Anyone have a recommended product to use as a replacement?
I don't know if the same stuff is used in those places, but my guess is that it's not critical what you use at the firewall/floor. I used dum-dum there once, it worked.
Here's a discussion of the drip-rail sealer: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...nary-tale.html

I can recommend Lord Fusor F122EZ self leveling seam sealer for the gutter. It flows well and really self levels. HOWEVER you have to do the entire gutter in one shot for best results. That means you need to be able to get around all three sides from slightly above the roof. I put planks on milk crates around the cab when I did it. I also did several dry runs with the cartridge gun to be sure of my positioning. Before you put on the mixing tip squeeze out at least an inch to be sure the two parts are flowing evenly. Then put on the mixing tip and squeeze out another inch or two to be surer you are getting a good mix. Then have at it......good luck. It took about 1/2 tube for the roof on my 62. You can use the rest any where you need to.
Looked at the SEM and Lord Fusor products; did you guys use them on bare metal, primed metal, painted metal, etc. I was planning on sanding, priming, then applying the sealent before painting.
We have used Vulkem 116 both for personal use and commercial use for many yrs. It will remain flexable for as long as you own it. It is paintable. It takes a few days to dry and where its cold, a few more. It can be used on bare metal or bare ANYTHING for that matter. We have even used it on areas that were not so clean but I would surely clean the area. It will seal against most all water problems. We have stuff that was sealed 15 yrs ago and it is still flexable and doesn't peel up like some other sealants. Some of the hotrod shops around here use it all the time. Vulkem can be bought at many hardware stores but is not really known to some about its properties. ALL the glass shops that I know of use the stuff. Its very strong sealant. I personally think it amazing.
