New to the 4.6/5.4 worlds.

What I have is a 1979 F100 that I am doing a Crown vic swap in.

The cross member and all is set up for the 4.6, so I am going to go with the modular engines.

I am going with a 5.4 rather than the 4.6.

How do the 5.4 and 4.6 mounts vary? Do I need to change them any?

I have found a 5.4L 4v from a 2003 Navigator.
How are these engines performance and reliability wise?
Rates are 300hp and 355 torque? Is there a good source for after market parts for it?

What is a reasonable power to expect from this engine?

Thank you guys in advance for any help or advice.

Also, what is the average value of a long block...minus intake that needs head gasket.
Im not too worried about the work, I will do it all myself of course and will likely get the heads worked a little.

I jujst dont want to be over paying for it if I can help it.

Tony,

Are you asking about how to do the 5.4 into the F100? I'm not sure on all the details and anything is technically possible but I think this is sometime that will test your skill and wallet. I imagine everything from basic brackets, cooling system, fuel system, mounts, exhaust system will have to be custom fabricated. Not to mention the electronics.

You would much better off going with a 351M, 351W, or 400 with C6 trans. You can get these as crate engines and drop a mild cam, intake, carb, and headers and have a very fine ride.

I think it would be easier and wayy cheaper to do a 5.4 2v with an eddie intake, adapter plates and a carb rather than the full electronics swap.
I knew a guy locally that adapted a 2001 4.0 v6 with all the electronics and 4r70w from a wrecked explorer into a 72 mustang, it wasnt that hard he said (eww) anyways... anything is possible...

I am not asking how to do it or what is involved. I have a shop and all the tools and time needed. Money will come as time comes.

I am more or less asking about the engine specifics.

I have not done any aftermarket upgrades to the 4.6/5.4 platforms.

Built plenty of 350s, Hondas and 302s. I want something different.

The truck is going to be a one off daily driver/cruise/show truck. Crown Vic front end, Thunderbird independent rear suspension, modded up 5.4 (not sure which one yet, but I am set on the 5.4) and custom body mods.

Not worried about the work involves, I am just wondering if the 5.4 4V is able to be built, and if it will make it to 400 or more horses.
I am ready and okay with dumping money into it for a nice build. It is not something I would ever consider selling.

Not trying to be an a**hole but I wanted to clear that up and put an end to all of the "dont do it" comments. Thanks for any help that comes up on the actually engine.

Are there companies making parts for the 5.4 4V? What, if any, parts are interchangable from the other 5.4 engines?

I would rather not do a 4.6 just because I want the larger engine and I am a little hard headed. When I am set with it I am set.

Port those heads, I know i read about a solution on a intake manifold somewhere as the navi intake is crap, google is your friend, custom grind cams, comp cams has off the shelf cams, and some long tubes... thats good for 400 fwhp stock internals i think are still good at that point...

Thank you!

I found a decent right up on a few things. Read that the internals are good to 800 horses...shocked me.
Found a good list of what is interchangeable.

Will have to do research on the intake problems I suppose.
