i have a 1978 ford f150, v8 6.6 400 motor..im putting in a used transmission..my question is what torque converter should i buy...any help with be apprciated
If everything is stock, I'd get a stock replacement converter.
Its not the orignal motor in truck. It was put in 3 years ago before i got truck. Car parts stores say i need to find a code on the torque converter. But i cant till i take old one out. But i wanna have one already when i take out

The only "code" I can think of is the ID tag that was located on the passenger side servo cover.
For a '78 F150 w/ C6, 400 & 2WD the tag should read PJA-AH3 or 4 for a trans that has an 8 tooth speedo drive gear, or PJA-BT3 or 4 for transmissions that have a 9 tooth speedo drive gear.

I found one on a website. Says c6 12inch diameter 31 splines 1.375 pilot Stall is 1200-1400 ribs angle 45 degrees left. Codes 64,65
I think you're putting a lot more thought into this than necessary and in the process, stressing yourself out.
If the engine is stock, go with a stock replacement converter.
I still don't have a clue as to what code 64 and 65 mean. I looked through two Ford factory manuals and neither of them list anything like that. All they refer to is the tag numbers like I posted above.
