boost question again...

Hey guys i just replaced my up pipes with the new bellowed up pipes from RR and now notice that i have lower boost than before the replacement of the pipes. Is about a 2 to 3 pound difference. Before at WOT i had about 17 now its about 14 to 15. I checked all my boots and clamps and everything seems fine but i can't imagine why the drop? Also it seems like my mpg also decreased?

Any suggestions are welcome
Thanks

-AJ

Someone who knows will pipe in soon, but I'm not aware of new up pipes causing lower boost.

did you check for leaks other than looking at boots and clamps? Theres a write up somewhere with how to test for leaks.

What gauge do you have? Where is the sensor located? Electric or mechanical sender?

What Matt suggested, plus check alignment of spider to turbo and/or O-ring between spider and turbo.

If the pin is not lined up you will hear a really loud hiss in the engine bay.

It won't take long to soot up, keep an eye out for fresh coal in the engine bay.

Yes, from what I understand that's about right. That's all I was able to get when I was stock.

Hey guys im really sorry for not getting back sooner. Im using actually two kinds of boost gauges. one is an isspro ev2 and the other comes from my scangauge II.

I dont hear any loud hissing noises thats one of the first things I had checked, I know the dowl pin is lined up I had checked that multiple times with a mirror when I did the install. Im probably just over thinking it.

boost leak tester.
pay very close attention to the seam between the turbo's compressor housing and backplate. there is a large oring at that junction that can give up the ghost when you freshen up drive pressure by doing the bellowed uppies... at least that is what i experienced.

if you truly have a boost leak... your pyro will tell you about it. initially, after bellowed install...my temps skyrocketed until i got the turbo leaky issue squared away.

Just wondering... you had 17 PSI before? Were your old ups sooting? Loud? What prompted the change?

Keep an eye out for soot around everything exhaust. I had bad manifolds.

Hey guys Im going to revisit this question again after doing some research. I was looking to swap out turbos and go with the GTP38R and after reading alot about it alot of the guys were saying they had about 28psi stock before the turbo swap. I never read about anyone not getting that high. Now the other day I was pulling up a hill WOT about 60 and bearly touched 15psi. I have checked everything that I could possibly check and everything is normal???

Any help is greatly appreciated.

AJ

Stock tuning? I didn't see tunes in your sig. With stock the most you will see is about 17 psi I believe. It also depends on where your sensor is, so 15 in stock may not be bad.

Edit: sorry I went back and read everything from the top. Did you get a boost leak tester on there?
