Engine Work Time.

So i found a guy that knows his way around my 6.0L, and i need injectors, but he said he doesnt know how long it will last if I JUST do injectors. So he is gonna lift the cab off the truck, and do head studs, egr delete, all fluids for 6500 . but if my heads are bad then it will be an extra 1200. Do these seem like good prices? This is my first big repair on my baby, and Im not sure what to look for in pricing. And he said he will do a high pressure oil pump for 500. So over all he said that if i do the studs and stuff it wont go bad again down there and if i need injectors again in 100K miles, the underside of the motor will be done and all i will have to do is injectors. I like this guy a nd trust him with my truck, just wanna see what you guys think about the pricing

I don't know if I would go through all that if you just need injectors, I would have to question why my injectors failed? Low fuel pressure? If it were my truck I would want to know what the fuel pressure was doing and address any problems found there. How many miles are on your truck?
Unless you have just been wanting to do the head stud job, then that is a different story.

Well its got 139,000 miles, and it has a miss when i fire it, its very obvious that its injectors. I want to bulletproof the motor so i dont have this problem again. One thing that I am changing is going to seitch over to motorcraft oil only. I have used rotella T, and motorcraft filters.

We are assuming of course that the injectors are indeed bad. Has the ficm been tested to ensure 48 v while cranking and while running? Has fuel pressure been checked while under load to verify min of 45 psi? I would not waste money repairing it if it ain't broke. If it is injectors fix the injectors and go only with OEM injectors. But like was stated verify why they failed, not just part swapping. Was the oil changed at a minimum of every 5k? Poor maintenance can cause parts to fail.

Raptor is giving you some solid advice. I'd follow it if I was you rather than going the shotgun route.

Perhaps I didn't make clear my intention, I was meaning I would want to know WHY my injectors failed not just throw new ones in there with all the bullet proof stuff because if there is a problem with fuel pressure all the bullet proofing wont fix that and you will damage your new injectors like raptor and 69 said.

You also might just need 1 or 2 injectors, which can be a cab-on job and a lot less expensive.

I would probably shop around. There is a shop that posts how to Vids on Youtube. Powerstrokehelp, I think is the name. They are in Atlanta and only work on PSD's. And their price is 4900 for a cab off bullet proof job. Well I guess thats depending how old that video is too.

FICM or fuel pressure is what kills injectors, 90% of the time. Very easy to check for almost no money, so you can tell what is causing the problems. Head gasket issues and injectors issues have almost nothing in common, so why someone would suggest a cab-off head job to fix a bad injector is beyond me.

I would raise the minimum fuel pressure to 50 psi under full load, FWIW.

Yes the oil was changed every 5K. I hear that I should be using Motorcraft oil only though. It kills injectors I hear. I know my EGR cooler is bad. So i am going to delete that. Injectors are bad dont know which ones though. I have not tested my FICM yet.

No. He is going to check everything in the heads and valves. He wants to make sure my head studs and heads are in tact. Injectors are a whole nother issue. He is going to do injectors while he's in there tho.

Unless you've stated something wrong or out of context, your mechanic scares me.
