hey guys, im getting a 99 crew cab short bed with the 5.4 from a buddy of mine. its a 250, with 126k on the clock, and its in decent shape. 4x4, with the manual shift t-case on the floor, not too sure of the gearing, but its an auto. the trucks in overall nice shape, though it does need a bed, the crossmembers underneath are rotting out, thought about replacing with square tubing. the only thing im asking advice on is there anything in particular i need to look out for in the drivetrain in this truck, i know all about the shooting plug issue, but is there any axle, t-case, issues i need to know about, anything common in particular to superduty trucks. all in all its in good shape especially being a 99. i plan on replacing the manifolds, with headers, and getting a nice exhaust underneath there, and some kind of a chip. the last thing with this truck is that the paint has a snowflake type pattern underneath the clear, but its factory paint. anyone else experience that with theirs? id also like to know what size rear end is in these. its my first superduty, and first gasser, and its got some decent ***** to it, even from moving from a diesel. any advice is greatly appreciated. thanks
Sounds like a pretty good truck with low mileage for a 99. Other than the plug spitting issues, they are pretty solid trucks. All trucks have their individual issues, but good solid maintenance is important.
Mine had an oil leak on the passenger side back of engine that drip on the exhaust. I recall others having this also. 3.73, 4.10 are common gears maybe 4.30 if someone ordered them. Look on the rear pumpkin and the tag might still be there connected to one of the bolts on the rear cover.

nope, which is why i didn't think twice to buy my second one and don't have a use for anything else on the market.
