the 4.6 is a great engine. Crown vics have them and most cop cars around here are still crown vics . I know from experiance they take a thrashing! They still keep on going . Have driven several trucks with the 4.6 and would not hesitate to buy one . As a matter of fact ,I plan on doing a 4.6 transplant in a 78 f100 .Frame off total transplant from a late model donor wreck . It will be a project !

All the good things said about the 4.6 by previous posters....are absolutely true! It is a great and very underestimated engine. Of course I feel that way about the entire modular family. 4.6 OHC > 5.0 push rod any day in my opinion.

I forgot to mention with the 4.6 you may want to pay closer attention to the rear axle ratio. My 98 2wd with the 4.6 had 3.55's and it had adequate power for towing. 3.73 would be better. Personally I would not want to go any higher (numerically lower) than the 3.55's and would much prefer the 3.73's.
