clutch questions

So in a hypothetical scenario, if you have no trouble getting into gear but when you release the clutch it really has a delayed takeoff, what would that indicate?

Also, in a real situation with my 91, when I'm in overdrive and I put the pedal down, to pass someone for instance, it slips. If I just ease it down it holds. What does that indicate? The cluch is brand new.

Oil/dirt on the clutch disc or flywheel or incorrect pressure plate/clutch assembly.

Sounds like not enough pressure on the clutch.

Throw out bearing sticking can cause a delay.

Is it a reman pressure plate.
Sometimes they resurface the pressure plate and then its travel isn't sufficient for the thickness of the clutch and it won't hold well even though its "new"

I guess I should clarify.

Situation #1 is actually happening on a tractor. John Deere just did transmission work on it, and 30 hours later it's giving me problems. Just wondering if anyone had any ideas about it.

Situation #2 is happening with my truck. I bought the clutch/pressure plate at Advance Auto. I was under the impression it was a new pressure plate. It there anything I can do about this?

I assume this is on your tractor. Does your clutch pedal have any FREE PLAY? Generally should have about one inch. But any free play would prevent what you describe from happening. So the question is: do you have ANY free play?

I should have asked what model tractor you have. This free play thing would only apply to certain models. Best thing would be to contact John Deere, they should stand behind their work.

It's a 1967 4020. I don't know, I've never been very impressed with their shop work. But I can't split the tractor here, and there's nowhere else to take it. The shop guys don't seem to know how to work on these older models. A neighbor of mine had a 3020 go in for transmission work, and he had to send it back twice because they couldn't get it right..

I'm just wondering if there's something I can do without having to have them work on it. I don't think I can convince them it's their fault, I've had it back almost 2 years, I just haven't been using it much. Like I said, only about 30 hours or less even.
