brass plug in the filter head.

as for the line, i just threaded a bolt in it and double hose clamped it until i did injectors, and eliminated the double tap cap for a single tap cap.

I was hoping someone would post the official Ford fix, but there's more than one way to skin a cat and this is how I did it:

1. Clean around the fuel return line hose fitting on the filter housing.

2. Disconnect the return hose from the fitting on th filter housing.

3. Remove the hose fitting from the housing. There is a spring and steel ball inside, the valve that doesn't work - I removed the spring but didn't bother trying to get the ball out, it will do no harm.

4, Install a tapered brass plug in place of the hose fitting. I think it's a 1/8 in BSP, plug, the thread measures 3/8 in at the widest point and has a 1/2 in hex head,( I just happened to have one that fitted). I used PTFE tape on the threads to make sure it's air tight.

5. Cut the return hose off about 1 or 1.5 in from injector #1.

6. Plug this hose stub with a short piece of metal rod and clamp it either with the now spare spring clip or a regular hose clamp, I think 1/4 in diameter rod would work, I only had 5/16 in and it was too large really.

7. Bleed the air from the filter by depressing the pin on the Schrader valve on the filter housing and have someone crank the engine (thanks Ford!) no more than 20 seconds at a time with 2 minute cooling off pauses between cranks, until fuel flows without bubbles. Some thoughtful person installed a second filter on my system in line before the fuel pump and original filter and it has a manual priming pump.

If you still get air in the system after this modification, maybe you've got bad olives! See this thread: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...m-upgrade.html

If you would like pics I can take some, but I hope the above tells all, just let me know.

BTW does anyone have an answer to my question posted above regarding the return line connection to the top of the injection pump?

i eliminated tha tline over 22 years ago, so all i can say was i cut the line put the plug in and put a bolt in the line.

as far as the return line from the injector pump, i would have to say it has to stay, otherwise there would be no place for the unused excess fuel in the pump to go.
