My 78 F250 build thread
Ive had the truck for a while and have done some modifications and thought I would like to have a build thread. Ill start from the beginning. So here we go...
I bought the truck in July 2012 at a feed store in Wyandotte. It was owned by the owner of the feed store for a year. He bought it from the original owner. It was born 5-25-78 at Ontario Truck with a 351M and a Borg Warner 4 speed both still in the truck. The Original owner bought it for his stone masonry company. I have the original registration and insurance papers as well as a number of receipts and owners manual. Odometer read 53800ish miles.
I bought the truck not running with little rust for $1100 after hearing the engine try and start by push starting it.
Here it is when I got it in the driveway
I got it running by putting a new battery in it and replacing the fuse link which no one noticed was burned up.
I registered and insured it and started to drive it around
At some time someone hit the passenger bedside off of something and there was white paint on it so I removed it with steel wool. You can see it in the pic above. I don't think I have a good after pic.
I put new shocks on it, a new fuel sending unit in it because the gas guage didn't work, fuel tank straps, spark plugs and wires, and a new gasket and 80w90 in the rear end in my shop class.
Before
After
I repainted the motor because I planned on putting a new manifold/carb and valve covers on so I wanted it to look good
Before
During
After
I rebuilt the Holley 4160 600cfm I bought for it in my shop class
Now its time for some fun inside the motor. I went over to my good friend Steven's (fordmaverickfan) house and our friend Elliot Steven's dad and
Steven helped me swap the intake, carb and valve covers. I'm thinking its an original miles truck because it looks really clean under the valley pan and under the valve covers.
Manifold off
After
And that brings us to yesterday. I took a flag I bought at a tesla/skidrow concert over the summer and rapped it around the headliner.
Theres more to come. The next projects are exhaust and then a cam and lifters. Thanks for reading I hope you enjoyed it
