[QUOTE=Nick 99;12631718]You might want to consider using some Diesel Klean (Walmart) in you fuel, It will clean the injectors and give you a better start.[/QUOTE
Yep been runnin the grey bottle of diesel kleen for the past 3+ years. EVERY fillup I put in about 10oz. It starts fine when its warm. If it sits a day or two with really cold weather........ Daytime 50s and below 35 at night it takes several times before it fires like I mentioned in the first post. Like I said im replacing the gpr for shure and gps fo shure while the vcs are off.
I will call around tomorrow to who evers open and hopfully I can find some. Leavin town after new years and need to have it good incase the wife needs it while im gone.
Yea i wanted to go with that but the problem is I'm going out of town and have limited time to work on the truck. Waiting for parts to come in especially with the holidays here i can imagine i won't have them in time. Unless this is something i could pick up at radio shack or another form of supplier.
I just replaced GPR with a Napa store unit. GPR 101 is the part number. They will ask what your working on, just tell them the above number.
Only problem is the mounting holes are 90 degree's off. I just went with 1 bolt instead of the 2.
Couple of weeks and its still nice and tight. $23 for the GPR 101
Get a 12v test light, 1 side in always 12v. The opposite after key is on will be 12v also.
My relay didn't click to switch power over. Bingo, that GPR was my problem. No power 2 the GP's.
Check it out. FWIW I wood change GP's while VC's off it my truck.
Later
i was just thumbing through the " cold start sticky " and i thought the part number for the gpr from napa was NAPA P/T # (GPR-109) thats what i had read. Correct me if I'm wrong.
What would the difference between the GPR 109 and 101 ?
Thanks Robin. I have some honey do's tomorrow morning. Im planning on hutch and harpoon in the afternoon and thursday pulling vc's and doing .50c mod, gp's, and re-torquing rockers and inj hold down bolts.
Should the motor sit over night prior to pulling the vc's ? Just wondering if they are warm when everything comes off then being cool at re-install, what effect this will have on the vc gaskets.
As long as you get the VC bolts torqued right it should be no problem.
Sweet thanks, whats there tq ? i think i have it in a post from Chris somewhere. Also any trick to getting them in and out ? or is it standard just un bolt and reinstall. I have been reading sticky threads and searching for gp install just to make sure i do it correctly and seems straight forward. I had read something about a medicine dropper to get the oil out from around them to prevent it from entering the motor/cylinder. Is this true. I been looking for a good write up but haven't found any accept 1 and all the instructions were in a link that would not work.
I just want to be prepared and not having to hunt down items to do the job or make some big mistake, like not sucking the oil from around the gps like mentioned somewhere i read in a sticky post like 14 pages in lol.
The oil around the GPs is not enough to worry about. But for peace of mind after you have all the GPs removed and the 42 pin connector is stll separated (this will not let the engine start) use the starter to crank the engine over a couple of revolutions. Just set the VC in place and held with a couple of finger tight bolts to keep any spraying oil from making a mess.

He mistakenly calls me Rick Payson. Not only am I not Rick, I am not Payson either. I live in Payson. He did get PaysonPSD right.

The GPR 109 is the exact replacement for the 1999-2003 7.3 relay. The GPR 101 is correct for the earlier Powerstrokes, and has the mounting bracket riveted 90 degrees from the later orientation. The operation of the relays is the same. The -109 relay is much more expensive.

WOW thats a great write up thanks a ton. Just what i had been looking for. Looking like fri or sat i will be doing it.
Is the valve cover gasket removal nessacary for the gp removal though like he mentioned ? I don't see why it would be, id just hate to remove it and encounter a problem douring removal or install. I don't have a problem removing it just don't want nothing to break lol. FIRST TIMER HERE and its at 230kmi and i can imagine things are brittle
Other than that, its fairly straight forward and I'm certain it will go fine....... All thanks to y'all and FTE
