waste gate probelms

sticking shut when its cold it idles fine just when im spooling boost it sticks sounds like a major air leak , til after it warms up ,its fine when i plug it in at night but 40 degrees and colder it acts up major power loss is this a sign for a complete turbo rebuild coming soon ?or is it someing malfunctioning , my diesel book is not very detailed on the turbo section

You have no wastegate. That is the ebpv operating. It will close when its cold, it aids in warming up the motor. Sounds like its working like it should. If you want, you can unplug it, there is a plug under the turbo on the drivers side.

It happens, they stick sometimes, its an old truck. Unplug it where I said, and wire it open at the turbo. Or, you can remove it completely. Search ebpv delete, or ebpv rod removal and you will get some ideas. It doesn't operate off of oil pressure. I don't remember what it does operate off of, someone may clarify that.

it does operate off oil pressure the solenoid that controls the ebpv allows oil pressure into the actuator in which operates the valve in the turbine

The sensor is on top the HPO resevoir. It has a metal tube coming off the bottom of it that runs down to the pass. side exhaust manifold. It's the tube that gets stopped up. I've heard of guys using an old speedo cable in a drill to clean them out, but it's easiest to just unplug it where Darin said and disable it all together. It's really not all that necessary. I deleted the whole thing from my pedestal and turbo.

it doesn't effect boost? because my mechanic said alot guys remove it but regret it later because takes longer for the turbo to spool up...i plan on getting 30 foot fifth wheel camper, dnt want the trk to work harder than it had to

Honestly, with it out of there, the turbo will spool quicker. It's just a butterfly valve that blocks the exhaust. It works like an exhaust brake. When they malfunction, they close when they're not suppose to. They really aren't needed. I deleted the the butterfly valve from my turbo, the actuator rod from my pedestal and plugged the hole that the rod came through with a pipe plug, and unplugged the the solenoid that controls the oil pressure to the actuator. My truck warms up just fine without it. Deleting it does not affect the boost at all, and your truck will not work harder without it. Like I said, if anything, it will spool up quicker without it.

Re-Build is 100% on above statement.....It was a Stupid idea by the Ford engineers...like the Resonator on the Vans and wiring the VSS on same circiut as the third brake light....and Many others....
