any ideas

any ideas on what would cause this, at idel the noise from the exhaust changes tone and volumne, it sounds normal then it gets louder, its almost like when some one is speaking with a hand over their mouth and then takes their hand away. could it be the turbo? I'm having lots of issues with this 6.0 rough running, poor mileage intermittant blue smoke, it doesn't seem to matter if the truck is warm, hot or cold. I'm looking at a new one but don't really want to spend $65000.00 and do I buy Ford or Dodge? I think Cummins is a better engine, but Superduty is a better built truck.

Can you supply engine parameters, like FICMv, VGT%, MAP, Baro, EBP, IAT, Fuel psi, any codes?

What year truck? Any mods? What brand fuel and oil filters?

The more info, the easier to diagnose.

The change in tone is probably the VGT exercising the vanes across a full sweep to help prevent from getting stuck. My truck does the same thing.

Does it sit alot ?If you work on your own truck pull the turbo and split in two, check the unisom ring for wear, look for wear in the channels the vanes are controlled by and where the activation cam rod arm hole

My early 04 does the same thing. with a straight 4" exhaust it sounds awesome when it changes over. Blows out like a leaf blower. Seriously i can feel exhaust blowin like four feet away. But unless its never done it before it should be the VGT duty cycle. Get a scan gauge and watch it go from 85 to 15

Sorry for the

Does the SGII have a VGT duty cycle Xgauge?

I agree that the OP is hearing the turbo sweep.

I have never really noticed my turbo doing the
sweep. But then again I don't sit and idle. Current
Flash and I do find time to drive like I stole it once
up to normal temp.

Aparently our ealry model turbos are a little different from your 06. Mine goes into a high idle from 672 up to about 1000rpms when real cold it seems. i hit the brake and it goes back down.i love it. but it sweeps evey couple minutes of idle or so. And everbody HAS to idle sometime. Dont u warm it up in the morning? Listen for a minute

Yes, my turbo doesn't do this. It hasn't been in a Ford dealer for a long time. So, it hasn't gotten any updated flashes.

KO=0 LI=73 HI=43 OR=0-100 %

On WOT, mine has been at 14%.

Hot idle mine rides around 82-85%. ( even with new turbo, clean EBP tube, clean MAP )

Most report as seen above - 73%
