I've been having a problem with my van over the past couple months that really has me scratching my head. The van runs fine most of the time but it will occasionally simply die, usually on the interstate. The engine instantly looses power, rpms go to zero, there is a beep and the Powertrain Malfuction Indicator light (wrench) comes on. Turn the key off to reset the PCM and it starts right up and drives another half hour or whatever before it happens again. It started out to only happen every few days but now it's pretty much every day several times.
I've pulled codes 2107, 121 and 122 at various times so I assume that this is a problem in the electronic throttle circuits somewhere. The throttle circuit is one that can cause forced shutdowns. I've changed the throttle body, the PCM, the engine wiring harness, and the gas pedal in that order all to no avail. I disconnected the Mass Airflow sensor to get that out of the loop and it still happened. I'm really at a loss as to what could be causing this. Are there other circuits that could be responsible for a Forced Engine Shutdown? Could EVAP do this? I did do some work on the EVAP system prior to this problem's development.
