Okay so I am looking to build a ford total roller motor but I'm not sure what motor to use I want it to be able to rev up in higher RPMS but still have tourqe and still be able to afford a block I am thinking about a 390 351clevland or a 352 any suggestions on any better motors for this project?
Welcome to FTE.... first, please use some punctuation (periods!) for us FTE'ers. Thanks.
Second, the FE engine series aren't known to be revvers. Unless you've got lots of coin for balancing, knife edging, and other hi-perf mods, FE engines are typically done around 5,000 RPM.
Your best bet is a 4V 351C or the Windsors (302/351 and its strokers).. preferably the latter for the xtra cubes to move these heavy rigs off the line.
Lastly, WHY do you want high RPMs? What is the intended use of the truck? Bragging rights? Or is this a street/strip use?
The truck is a 1978 ford that I have built with 4:56 gears with a Dana 60 front and rear.
The truck has 40 inch boggers and i am tired of the 400m in it and want something with more power and want to be able to hammer down when I get into deep mud.
I have a 429 sitting in my shop and I have contemplated just using that.
I was gonna say go with a 460 but was assuming this was 2WD. Thanks for the info.... that gives us background on what yer doing and what ya wanna do.
I'd use the 429. IIRC, it'll bolt up to the tranny too. Balancing and cam/valve train selection will get the higher RPMs. Make a call to Comp Cams or Crane and let'em know what you wanna do.
