to start off ive always been a chevy guy and still am but i bought a 92 bronco as a toy last year .I did a 6in lift 35s and a few other things too it and abuse the hell out of it in the trails and mud and it changed my view on ford trucks so i was looking to buy a new truck and decided on a 99 f150 4x4 off road with the 4.6 motor instead of a chevy .now ive been having problems with it running rough it has a little stumble at idle and random rpm drops from 800 to 400 or so and stumbles when accelerating with no power. ive been in and out of different threads to trouble shoot it but im stumped. CEL came on and threw codes camshaft position sensor,IAT,coolant temp sensor,TPS and all 4 02 sensors so i changed all those cleared the computer and very little change in the way it runs so i checked for vaccum leaks and nothing.I tested and cleaned the IAC and the EGR valve, also tested EGR valve noid and the dpfe sensor both tested good.I changed both coil packs all plugs and wires ,I also changed the fuel filter and checked fuel pressure it showed at 36 psi . after all this I have not had a code pop up and not sure what to check next any input would be appreciated thanks
To get a lead on the issue you need to put a Scanner on it and look at all the data points to detect what is out of spec or limits.
At this point you have nothing to go on if you don't.
You have not listed any codes to relate to. They rule what you do.
You already replaced many parts you 'may not' have needed.
For example, the DPFE has nothing to do with engine idle.
Do look at all the intake hoses and fitting for damage, cracks etc.
You have now entered into a new world of engine manegment.
It's not like the old school.
Good luck.
I've replaced all the vacuum lines on the motor and pcv valve and no difference,i didnt replace the iac because I never got a code for that and only cleaned it because i read that it helped others so I figured it wouldn't hurt should I just replace it to rule it out? I don't want put money into a part that don't need to b changed though.everything i changed came up on my scanner.I do not have any codes showing now, also I have not done a live data scan because I don't have a scanner that is capable of doing that .is that my next step?
Ok a little update, I also own a 98 f150 2wd I got cheap with 350,000 miles and runs like champ and I took the maf off that and ran it on my 99. Now the truck runs good other than idling. It starts good revs to 1500 rpm drops to 1000 until warm and drops to 800 then lopes for a second and falls to 3-400 almost stalling and comes up to 800 with a lopeing idle. I can rev it fine and let it fall and it drops to 1000 rpm then 800 then lopes for about 30 sec. And instant drop again . Still no codes on my scanner and exhaust smells rich any suggestions?
Sadly the aftermarket IAC I put on my '89 was worse then the 100K mile original. I ended up dismantling the original one and cleaning it thoroughly and reinstalling it. Works like a charm. Maybe a true Motorcraft version (from dealer) would have been better(and more money)??
thanks for the replies but i got it running perfect.i talked to a friend of a friend af a friend lol who is a ford mechanic and he said throw away the plugs i got and put new motorcraft in and put 3 cans of seafoam in on a 1/4 tank or less and drive it. it worked like a charm. i never thought to use that much seafoam in one shot lol. 260,000 miles and back to counting
