All the new ones are like the vehicles these days, plastic and pot metal.... FWIW I am still using a Whirlpool set purchased in 1987 and they both work flawlessly, and neither has ever been opened up,, Guess I had better get ready, because they will both break since I bragged on them..

That's because your Maytag was a quality unit made in Newton, Iowa. They were bought out by Whirlpool, closed down the old factory and now sell their appliances based on their old reputation. I will freely admit they used to make a quality product, but buying a Maytag today buys you the name only.

I can say that I bought a Kenmore refrigerator a few years back. It was made in Mexico, and it works just fine. Except for the fact that it shuts off every afternoon for a couple of hours.

If it happens right after you eat lunch, it could be the automatic defroster.

Well we went out and bought an LG top load HE. From researching the web and talking to the service Tech at the local appliance repair parts depot in town, seems top load's the way to go. Jut gotta keep the fingers crossed I guess.
