That's because your Maytag was a quality unit made in Newton, Iowa. They were bought out by Whirlpool, closed down the old factory and now sell their appliances based on their old reputation. I will freely admit they used to make a quality product, but buying a Maytag today buys you the name only.

Well we went out and bought an LG top load HE. From researching the web and talking to the service Tech at the local appliance repair parts depot in town, seems top load's the way to go. Jut gotta keep the fingers crossed I guess.
