> First of all... Total time was 5 1/2 hrs. I know, I know, it doesn't take that long to do. I spent 2 hrs. trying to remove that damn clip on the vent tube from the top of the tank. I'm still not sure how I got it off, it just happened. Afterwards I could see the notches on the vent stem that the connector had to make its way over. Now that I think of it, I may have just needed to squeeze on opposite sides of the connector and it would have slipped over the notches on the stem. I don't know... all I can say is it was a pita!

> Second, this can be a one man job. I used a floor jack with multiple sizes of scrape wood to help hold the tank at various stages throughout the project. I ran into one issue where the tank strap was rusted in two so I couldn't reuse it. I called the local Ford dealer and they didn't have one in stock. The parts guy said as long as I have the tank skid plate to support the tank, that should be fine. What are your thoughts on that? I agree that the skid plate has been holding it for, I don't know how long, so I went without it.

> The new pump I bought from Amazon, $276 - original Ford Motorcraft part - complete unit with pump, sending unit, and gas gage float. Pull the old one out and slip the new one in. "God I love using original, fits every time Ford parts". Autowarehouse.com claims they have the part in stock and after they charge your credit card you get an email saying it's out of stock can we sell you another brand... no thank you. I will never order from them again.<o

>I used the following link as reference while replacing the pump... http://www.fordforums.com/f57/how-12-95-1996-ford-explorer-v-6-4-0-4-dr-fuel-pump-replacement-165076/ very helpful. I wish I could find this guy and buy him that beer.
Hope this is helpful to anyone thinking of replacing their own fuel pump.<o
