recently swapped gas for 6.9 diesel in 92 f 350, my question is the top wires on the injector pump, do both of them need constant 12 volts source to keep switch open,
One, the front one, is the fuel shut-off solenoid. It needs 12v anytime the key is to run or start. The rear one is the cold advance. It needs 12v when cold, like the fast idle solenoid.
Are you talking about the 2 single post clips that attach to the top of the IP? One has 1 wire and one has 2? If this is what you are talking about then the 2 wire one is for the fuel switch (toward the front of the IP if I remember correctly). It needs to be energized to allow fuel enter the cylinders. The single wire is for the cold timing advance. It should only be energized prior to the engine reaching operating temp. It allows for easier starting and quicker warm up in cold weather. If it is energized all the time it will cause the IP to run with too much advance and can damage your glow plugs.
Of course ths is on my 7.3.....never messed with the 6.9.
thanks for the information, its the same wire connections on a 6.9, i will try to figure out how to wire that in without burning truck, also glow plug hot wire, i was thinking of using a push spring button so that i can hold button down for the 10 seconds when engine is cold and so on. so i can drive truck.
