Quick Dana 60 Question

Is a Ford Dana 60 Stub shaft universal? I'm buying 35 spline outers but the information I have found is one part number for 78-79 and one for the 87-91 king pin.. So do any of ya'll know if they'll fit balljoint dana 60s? And to those of you who have performed this upgrade, where did y'all buy your parts? Did you get the 630$ Kit from 4wd factory? Or is there a cheaper alternative that is just as good?

Dana 60 35 Spline 4340 Alloy Stub Shaft - Sky's Off-road Design

This would be a cheap option, but it doesn't come with U-joints. But I have already put in a new Precision brand U-joint, (which I know isn't as good as spicer) but I could by another for around 35$- 40$ bucks and have about 150$ less in the setup.

Okay, So I think I figured out the answer to my first question.

I think Im going to go with Yukon 4340 35 spline shafts Mile Marker Hubs, and I may order some Spicer Joints eventually, but I think I'll just try to run the ones I have now, for $$ Reasons. Please let me know if I am making a mistake, here. Is the 1480 series Joint a weak link? I have broken 20 Year old Spicer caps, but that's about all.

Ok....

The 85-91 stubs fit the 92+ axle

I bought Yukon stubs from Complete Offroad and Alloy USA stubs off ebay. Im also using Yukon inners from Complete Offroad.

Yes the ujoint is the weak link and when it lets go you will likely fubar the ears ruining the shafts. Go with the best joints you can afford. I had a set of Spicer life series joints cryo'd and theyve held up fine. Otherwise look at Bobby Longs 300m joints.

I like my Warn Premium hubs better than Mile Marker

Just keep a eye on your Axle shaft Joint's most of the time they show wear before they actually break, i try and check mine after every race, or at-least every other race and if they look warn ill go ahead and change them. that being said im about to go to some Drive flange's ive had to much bad luck with hub's this year.

Thanks for the suggestions, I went with yukon stubs and Mile Marker Hubs. They had a good warranty so they should be alright. I'm gonna try and find some spicer joints locally, I have a buddy who can get a discount on them if the company he works for can get them.

With Spicer life series joints I was twisting off 35 spline outers. Never broke the joint itself. The shaft ways gave first.

Its funny I keep hearing that but Ive busted numerous sets of Spicer hubs on 44s and 60s but have had much better luck with Warns. Granted Ive broke Warns too but not as often as Spicers

had the same set of spicers for 20 years never broke one. 1972 f-250 4x4 390 4speed dana 60 front 4.88 with detroit. Would like to know what you broke. Even so break the spicer replace plastic ****,break others replace whole hub.Seen many guys put 3/8 fuel line in warn hub just to get it to work. 60 went into truck in 1984 broke other stuff but never a hub.

Ive broke everything conceivable on Spicer and Warn hubs and a helluva lot more than the little plastic ****.

Warns work better. Its simple fact on REAL offroad and race trucks

It also depends on what 60 you have. If its a closed knuckle drum brake low pinion factory pos commonly found up through about 76 then Id say you are right. The hubs arent the weak link in those setups. They are basically a glorified 44. Otherwise I do not see you parting out a 4-5 year old 78-79 250/350 for the front axle.

610023-6 cost me $1000 in 1984 with no hubs. What else broke on spicer hubs. Truck has about 7000 hours on it at least 5000 off road. Volunteer forest service worker I have been on LOTS of rescues. Lived 5 minutes from off road area. Truck has large PTO winch in back. Like I say broke a lot of stuff but never a hub. Pinion gear,3 knuckles, axles, about 20 sets of wheel bearings, sound like no use to you?

Ive busted the body in half, stripped the splines internal and external and twisted the bolts out off the top of my head. Like I said....everything conceivable.

I never said it wasnt used. I said a real offroad or race truck use Warns bc they last better than Spicers

Kinda new hear, what kind of a truck do you have? Tried to look it up but could not find info.I have striped internal splines inside rotor a few times, but thats it.How do you bust a body in half? I have a set 35 spline henrys axles made out of 300M. The ears would break off,but shaft would be ok. I hate to say it but the warn hubs are a JOKE.
