I've had ongoing ABS problems with my 1996 Bronco for 5 years now. Currently I can't drive it except on dry roads or the brakes lock up. Can I just unplug the darn ABS ? I have gotten conflicting answers from a few people. I really don't want to sell the truck as I love it dearly and I would expect it wouldn't bring much in this economy with the brakes the way they are.
You can unplug the ABS, but be careful not to unplug the VSS instead, If you do you'll notice the speedometer doesn't get a signal, and if your truck is an auto it probably won't shift right (if it shifts at all). I would preferably try to solve the cause of the failure, ABS sensors are in the front wheels and easily accesable once the tires are off. Maybe even cleaning them could solve the trouble.
In the Front End Rebuild link in my signature I take the sensors off, you could use the info and pics for reference.
Sensors could be gone. Mine are gone, so I went back to pumpin the brakes when snow is on the ground and droppin to 2nd when going down hills thats are covered in snow. You could also go play around in the snow maybe in your neighborhood? to get accustomed to pumping the brakes in snow
