Im thinking of buying this early 80's 302 for cheap but the guy said it runs good until it warms up then stalls and wont start until it is cold again.
I have never run across this problem but I'm sure someone has,, I dont have access to the motor so I dont have any other info.
Can't remember what year, but if the ignition module is located on the side of the distrubtor, when they got hot they would cut the vechile off until they cooled down, then you could restart the vechile and it would run until it got hot again...replacing the module would fix this promblem. May not be this, but it was a thought...Good luck.
Hey guys, I know this is a little outdated, but I was wondering if a solution was ever found. I have the same problem with my van, but it doesn't stall. The engine runs great, until I turn it off to go anywhere. Once I return to the car, if I don't give it enough time, it won't cool down and won't start. I hear it could be the distributor cap, expanding and having to wait until it cools, but I'm not sure how reliable this is. Sounds like its not as rare of a problem as I thought, and any advice would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to message me or e-mail me.
I bought the 302 (which turned out to be a 255, crap!)
I thought it was probably ignition so before I even fired it, I yanked the dist out and threw a good old points system in it and it runs great, but its still just a 255ci boat anchor.
I'm afraid its not the thermostat, it's something electronic. I replaced the thermostat when i rebuilt hte engine, and watched it work a few times when heating it up during a radiator repair. Any other suggestions on what to do abotu the electronic control module which is attached to the distributor. It has been replaced 3 times since I've owned it. Can it be relocated in any way? It's such a stupid engineering job. In such a hot place. Ford if you are reading this, my recall payment wasnt enough. I need more money to fix the problem. Oh well.
hey carlo,
i have a '79 e 150 that had the same problem. it was the starter solenoid. try a new starter and see how it does. i got mine at a chain store for $22.
