ok so since i found out my heads were cracked i got a set of new heads i believe they are cj heads. i was told they came off a 5?? ci stoker motor in a pulling truck. he had half a season on them. so this is what they have done to them: 2.19/1.75 valves, 3 angle valve job, pocket work? decked .010, professional port and polish, and the intake and exhaust runners widened and worked. the cast numbers are C8OE-6090-N. so is there anything else that needs done to them or are they ready to go on my 428 block
Exhaust valve will hit the bore. You'll either need to notch the top of the bore, overbore the cylinder more or both to get that exhaust valve to clear.
im still just a grasshopper when it come to this stuff, so feel free to correct me but notching it would allow for the bigger valves, so even tho a part of the valve is extremely close to the block and restricting flow wouldnt the over all increase in the valve circumference still be enough to flow better than the 1.66 valves? i would like to know if this procedure reduces compression. also these heads do not have hardend seats. the heads i took off my motor did not have them ether and the seats got the dog **** pounded out of them. i do not have the money to buy smaller valves and pay for machine work. so is there any way to reduce the wear on the valve seats without hardened seats being installed.
If you want some of the best information you can get about an FE, call up Barry at survival motorsports. I'll be having him do some work on my 390 at some point in time myself.
Yea I'm on there a lot just to see what they do next, and of course to ask stuff about my FE. Finally met Barry last weekend in Columbus for the Ford Swap Meet and got to talk to him for a bit. It was nice talking to someone with such a wealth of knowledge.
I swear if I had the money to just blow I'd buy it. I remember reading his post back when he first mentioned it and asked if anyone was interested in it.
Heads sound extreme! I'd get a good set of D2teaa heads and install 1.66/2.09 stainless ,1 piece cj valves. It's what I did. Otherwise a set of edelbrocks are equivalent.
