I need help...
I am stuck between a 2007 with 68000 miles and a 2008 with 123500 miles. Both are optioned the same...XLTs, 5.4L, auto, SCrews, etc. The 2008 appears to be a Florida pick-up. I am unaware of the origins of the 2007. Is there a preference out there between the models years? Has the 5.4 been ridded of its issues by then? What about the IWE problems?
98GP, The 55,500 less miles on the 07 stands for a lot less daily wear & tear. You might get the seller to install the new spark plugs as part of purchase for peace of mind.
I bought a 06 that was a Fla. pickup about 6 months ago, & it is the most molested vehicle that I have ever seen. Not to imply anything, just sayin.
98GP...the 4wd system is the same on all 2004-2008. Later in the model run Ford did put a small drip cover over the solenoid on the passenger side firewall that keeps water/ice from building up in the top of the solenoid. Other than that, the system and its mechanicals are the same.
I'd go with the 2007. Do you know the 2007's build date? The later the better...and look for BROWN coil over plug covers...instead of black. Brown signifies a head design change and the likelihood of not having sticking plugs on your first plug change.
Thanks
The look is still on b/c the 2007 has sold and the 2008 will not engage the wheels while going from 2x4 to 4x4. After reading about the IWE issue, it seems to me that solenoids are not shifting the valve to relieve the vacuum on the wheel actuators. The t-case feels to be shifting.
The dealer is asking 14k as is for the 2008. What do you think would be a reasonable offer knowing this 4x4 malfunction?
Unless you are desparate for a truck, keep looking 98GP. You'll find a deal on the right truck if you're patient. You are bound to find another lower mileage truck if you are patient and disciplined enough to walk away from the bad ones. You might miss out on an occassional good like the 07 you missed out on, but at today's prices don't be in a big hurry to buy the first thing you see. And when you find that good lower mileage truck be ready to act. That means if you are financing have everything ready to go beforehand like pre-qualifying for a mortgage. It's much faster and easier if all you have to do is call your loan officer at the bank or credit union and give them the VIN and amount needed than to go thru everything after you've found the right truck.
OK, u know the 2007 sold before I could get there.
Now I am going to look over a 2005 with 100K, dual exhaust, leveling kit, plus 305/65/17 BFG KM2.
I spoke with the dealer that has the 2008 with 124K and he said it is on hold with deposit until tomorrow.
Should I have a preference between a 2005 and a 2008? Both are optioned the same...
2006 or later...in attempt to avoid the phaser issues. Late 2006 at that...2004-2005 wasn't the best run in the world for the 5.4L. The later the better.
I have been on the search and research for about six months now. It has gotten heavier now because I have sold my Jeep.
What are the manufacturing dates of these pick-ups? You say later the better. I looked at an 06 today born on May 2006. Is late in that year or early? I would think late because the next model year usually starts in that fall of the year prior...model 2006 started fall 2005...correct?
