The 6.4L Powerstroke

IMO, it covers just about all the same stuff that's always recomended by the veterans on here. I'm sure there are a few discrepancies, but its very thorough and accurate from what I know.

Thirty plus views and no feedback?

Was this posted before? I searched and didn't find it, but something tells me it was.

I looked earlier and had to go get the dau from swim practice.

I think it is a good read, especially for the beginner. I think I have seen it before but was sometime ago.

A lot of good info, and reaffirms what has been stated here that the sever maintenance schedule should be followed.

I just bought a 2008 F-250 6.4L. After reading this I want to put it up for sale. I never realized there was so much problem with this truck. I have always been a Ford person, but this is my second diesel. My first one was a 6.0L and was perfect. A driver on PCP on Thanksgiving totaled that truck.

Never fear...is somewhat out dated but still a good primer.

Stick to a severe maint schedule in the diesel supplement and you should be fine.

Wasn't intended to scare people out of their 6.4. Change oil every 5,000 miles, fuel filter every 10,000 miles, drain HFCM at least monthly, check fluids at each fueling. Have oil analysis run every other oil change or so.

My brother (who does not have to worry about money) bought a 2010 F-250 in 2010. On a trip to Georgia the truck just died. He had around 35,000 miles on it. Had bought the largest insurance package Ford sales. They said that he had bad fuel and it was around $14,000.00 to fix the truck.

After he picked up the truck he drove across the street in Georgia and bought a brand new 2500 Cheverlot.

So he gave me advice "do not buy a F-250 in 2009 or 2010 because they have bad motors." W E L L now I see the 2008, 2009, and 2010 are almost the same thing.

I will have to increase my prayer life I guess.

08-10 all have the 6.4 but by no means would I say they have "Bad engines." Lots of happy people. The ONLY common factor in failures is lack of maintenance. Even then, negligent maintenance is not a guaranteed failure. I know a few 6.4 owners personally that don't even know where the HFCM is or check their fluids regularly and have had minimal to no issues. Many of us may be TOO meticulous on our maintenance, we've all been pretty blessed with minimal issues.

no body can predict water in the fuel. Anything 2008 model year and up accross all three mfr's have high pressure common rail fuel injection.

None like water.

I have never had a problem and I tow cross country quite a bit.

I am a believer in maintenance also. I am no mechanic so it goes to the Ford house.

I am putting my foot in my mouth now, but please tell me where the HFCM is located. Now y'all flame away just tell me where it is located before I am flamed.
