U.P.R.R.?? what is that, union pacific rail road?

it is very possible they are buying the high sulfur fuel in canada.
the only diesel fuel that is allowed to be sold in the united states is 15 PPM

It would make sense that they would buy it there and run it here. But then again, why would they care unless they see a real benefit from the 500ppm?
Very interesting topic here. In my opinion, and that of many others, is its all a crock of ****. Lets face it, the government doesnt give a damn about the environment. Its about tax dollars and control. If they truly cared about the environment, the gas and diesel motor technology in use in europe and the rest of the world would be sold here.

But alas, those motors that get 45+mpg dont meet our "superior" emissions standards. At what cost does this come? Granted the emissions may be cleaner, but not when you have to use 3x the fuel at the same expense. The EPA's standards are nothing but restrictive towards efficiency. Imagine of a bulk of vehicles on the road used a 3rd or less of the fuel they do now? That would mean a 3rd or less taxes collected by the government.

i dont even think that the epa cares about our enviroment tbh i think they are just doing it for the power and i agreee with what ford says if they really did care then we would be driving the cars and such they are producing in europe versus the stuff we have here. im to believe that the only difference is that they are more for luxuray as where we are more for power and will kill for the stuff we love. my opinion on that. epa doesnt care about our enviroment they just wanted the control over the automotive industry. but then again if they were concerned about it then the would be making every vehicle require such eco friendly stuff such as a dpf or a cat on everything no matter the year. so clearly they dont care. other wise plant more trees we should be good. just let the tree huggers do there thing and protest some more then we all will be screwed

It doesn't really make that much sense....
my argument as well, but all that matters to the EPA in the end is what is coming out the tail pipe. Yeah mpg might be cut in half but the tail pipe sniffer just sees that there is a cut down in something like NOX, so they run with it.

It is a trade off, simple as that. clean tail pipe=crap mpg=more fuel to go farther. dirty tail pipe=better mpg=less fuel to go same distance. in the end it all equals out........until you engine is trashed b/c of post injection so you can have a tail pipe that puts out water vapor.

did OTR trucks use DPF before 2008 when light duty started using it?

IIRC ULSD came about in 2006 or 2007.
