I like to coast but have an automatic regular 5 speed. Am I hurting the transmission by coasting in neutral. I live in the mountains and have excellent opportunities to save fuel.
You mean like from Deep Gap to Wilkesboro on 321 huh?
I don't know that you are hurting the trans, but I don't know that you aren't either.
I do know:
Coasting in neutral doesn't cut fuel off, it idles the engine and then you also use brakes mor plus running the engine takes fuel.
Leaving it in Drive or OD and if steep enough .... fuel is cut off alltogether and motor just is pulled over until you step on gas at bottom. You'll see a fuel GPH readout go 0.0 and MPG go 9999 ... if you have a monitor.
