You can look at these, but the original sticker in the engine compartment is more accurate. Otherwise, look for a 1980 Truck & Van EVTM on eBay or thru Helm.

thats great thanks guys........i am thinking the( s )on the carburetor (that goes to the distributor ) goes thats the lower of the 2 ports on the carburetor and the lower one is more toward the front i believe....so i have it in the right spot ....im just wondering why even though everything is lined up on my timing, why its so far off.?
Not sure if i time by the mark on the right side of the balancer or the left side..guess it dont much matter cause its lined up..... correct me if im wrong.... or let me get a confirmation on it if i could

If the timing is off, then something isn't lined up. And it DOES matter what mark you're using. There should be a sheet-metal pointer on the passenger side of the engine with a sawtooth edge - that's the right one.

You should always follow the procedure on YOUR emissions sticker.

How are you finding #1 TDC? Pulling the plug and sticking something into the cylinder? How are you making sure you're on the compression stroke?

ya sticking something into the plug hole is how im finding top dead center...as far as teh compression stroke goes i went by feel and the marks...i have never pulled the distributor out of the truck and i dont really feel like replacing a valve cover to watch the intake valve open......the truck runs..actually runs pretty good at initial start up........just a thought here but wouldnt it not even run if i wasnt on the compression stroke at top dead center...I dont know...... i have this gut feeling that its right but...i static timed it when i first did it...not that it matters to much but it is static timed with my piston at top dead center....

To find compression, just block the plug hole with your thumb. When it gets blown off the hole, that's the compression stroke.

ya steve thats actually the method that i used......so its right i just need to take the vaccum line off the distributor now and time it the right way......i guess i just am to worried about it...but wanna make sure that i know its right and not depend on the guy before...ya know what i mean....now my next thing that im gonna do is change the rear end it has 3;14 gears in it...yuck...doesnt wanna pull for nothing..not even its self it seems...im gonna put some 3:68s in it cause thats what i have access to and it will be the easiest just to swap the whole rear end......still am trying to think of how to adjust the carb..i rebuilt it but wanna dial it in...im thinking an egt gauge...will help me monitor the motor...clogged filter what not

Question vacuum lines

I am putting back together my 1983 F100 truck's 4.9L engine(manual tranny) after a complete ovehaul (1 Cracked cylinder, 1 groved cylinder wall) and I have to re-attach the vaccuum system. I have the diagram on the radiator mount frame but I cannot understand the component short hand on it. This is the first time doing this whole thing for me and stupidly did not take pics of what was left of the system(some of it dis-abled by previous owners) before teardown. whats:

VRDV
V CK V
T V V
TVS
WOT
Air BPV
ACV
A/CL

Added to that it dosn't show the power brake diaphram or to the cockpit heater valve (I think)

Any reference to pic of the system on a engine would help too.
