looking for a pic or a very descriptive manual on the vacuum line set up for my 80 f-150 w/inline 6 ....curious if the distributor vaccuum line is hooked to any other vaccum lines or if it just goes to the carberator... top or bottom of left side of the carberator.....would like some pictures or diagrams of it really...used truck not a certified mechanic just wanna make sure its right...thanks
You can look at these, but the original sticker in the engine compartment is more accurate. Otherwise, look for a 1980 Truck & Van EVTM on eBay or thru Helm.
thats great thanks guys........i am thinking the( s )on the carburetor (that goes to the distributor ) goes thats the lower of the 2 ports on the carburetor and the lower one is more toward the front i believe....so i have it in the right spot ....im just wondering why even though everything is lined up on my timing, why its so far off.?
Not sure if i time by the mark on the right side of the balancer or the left side..guess it dont much matter cause its lined up..... correct me if im wrong.... or let me get a confirmation on it if i could
If the timing is off, then something isn't lined up. And it DOES matter what mark you're using. There should be a sheet-metal pointer on the passenger side of the engine with a sawtooth edge - that's the right one.
ya im wondering though steve...its when the engine is not running my piston is at top dead center and the right mark on the pulley is lined up on the timing cover chain and the left marks on the pulley are on the timing marks on the left....rotor is at number 1 cylinder on distributor.....but when the truck is running its not on the marks but runs fine....now thats with everything hooked up still all plugs all wires...do i need to pull off a vacuum line to get it to line up......and i know i should use the marks on the left side of the motor but which marks on the pulley do i use???if i pull the distributor vacuum line will the mark on the right side of the pulley go to left left side of the motor on the timing marks...could use your help...thanks
ya sticking something into the plug hole is how im finding top dead center...as far as teh compression stroke goes i went by feel and the marks...i have never pulled the distributor out of the truck and i dont really feel like replacing a valve cover to watch the intake valve open......the truck runs..actually runs pretty good at initial start up........just a thought here but wouldnt it not even run if i wasnt on the compression stroke at top dead center...I dont know...... i have this gut feeling that its right but...i static timed it when i first did it...not that it matters to much but it is static timed with my piston at top dead center....
ya steve thats actually the method that i used......so its right i just need to take the vaccum line off the distributor now and time it the right way......i guess i just am to worried about it...but wanna make sure that i know its right and not depend on the guy before...ya know what i mean....now my next thing that im gonna do is change the rear end it has 3;14 gears in it...yuck...doesnt wanna pull for nothing..not even its self it seems...im gonna put some 3:68s in it cause thats what i have access to and it will be the easiest just to swap the whole rear end......still am trying to think of how to adjust the carb..i rebuilt it but wanna dial it in...im thinking an egt gauge...will help me monitor the motor...clogged filter what not
I am putting back together my 1983 F100 truck's 4.9L engine(manual tranny) after a complete ovehaul (1 Cracked cylinder, 1 groved cylinder wall) and I have to re-attach the vaccuum system. I have the diagram on the radiator mount frame but I cannot understand the component short hand on it. This is the first time doing this whole thing for me and stupidly did not take pics of what was left of the system(some of it dis-abled by previous owners) before teardown. whats:
VRDV
V CK V
T V V
TVS
WOT
Air BPV
ACV
A/CL
Added to that it dosn't show the power brake diaphram or to the cockpit heater valve (I think)
Any reference to pic of the system on a engine would help too.
