Considering a New 2013 Eco-Boost F-150. Thoughts?

Hey everyone. Trying to help my dad out here. He currently has a 2008 6.4L F-250 and has been thinking about trading it in on a 2013 F-150 with the 3.5L Eco-boost.

Basically what are everyones thoughts on the 3.5L Eco-boost? Should he consider another an engine option? 5.0L?

Thanks for the help!

6.2L V8 or 3.5L Ecoboost gets my vote. Driven both and prefer the 6.2L.

Yeah I'd love for him to get 6.2L but I dont think he really needs the extra power and drop in fuel economy.

This is the first gas Ford we've bought in awhile and I just want to get the all the info I can before we make the purchase. If anyone has any other tips or suggestions please feel free to post them. Im all ears! Thanks

Nothing wrong with the 5.0 either. About the same mileage, much easier & cheaper to fix when repairs are needed. I just bought one.

What's he going to use the truck for. I pull a 10,000 lb when loaded toy hauler with an Ecoboost with max tow with no issues at all. Overall mileage is decent. Runs strong. Haven't had any issues. Can't recommend that engine strongly enough.

He has a 16' covered cargo trailer. He does custom woodworking so its mainly just cabinets and other stuff. Basically he has no need for the F-250. Its just overkill. The F-250 already needs new rotters and pads in the front because they've managed to warp already some how and its due for new tires. I can get X-Plan pricing through my work as well so its kind of no brainer to just go ahead and trade it in.

For that sized load either engine should work fine. They're both good.

I bought a 2013 F150 last week and decided to go with the 5.0. I don't tow anything so the EB seemed to be overkill and I just feel the V-8 will be more reliable. I love the sound of the V-8 as well. If I hauled more, I may have considered the EB more, but the 5.0 meets our needs.

Being that your dad is a diesel guy, he may feel more at home with an ecoboost truck. He'll get diesel like performance with gasoline maintenance.

3.5L or 5.0L, a score either way.

As mentioned before, you won't go wrong with either motor. I voted for the ecoboost soley for the additional mileage and a little more torque. Happy hunting!

5.0 and ecoboost are pretty much the same MPG. If he really needs to pull heavy stuff a lot get the 3.5. The 5.0 will do it just about as well but you have to get some RPM to do it which a lot of people do not like. The ecoboost is not a lemon but seems to be more 3.5 folks with problems than 5.0.

What I have gathered from reading this forum daily is ecoboost owners are really proud of their trucks(if they have no problems). And get mad if you mention there might be a few major bugs needing worked out. I personally like the 5.0 and the 3.5, sometimes wish I got an ecoboost. But reading these forums and the problems some guys are having makes me glad I went with the 5.0. Even if there are 20 problem free ecoboost for every 1 dud, dont think I could rest easy with all the known problems.

And another point to touch on. Yes the Ecoboost beats the 5.0 in HP/TQ. But the 5.0 has huge aftermarket support already. Not saying the ecoboost is maxed out, but it is closer than the 5.0.

There is more available but most of the good stuff (turbos, superchargers) will run ya $6k-$7k. Most people will never spend that much on performance mods and N/A engines don't gain as much with simple mods such as intake, exhaust and tunes.
