Help my trucks performance

I have a 1992 non-turbo 7.3 diesel 4x4 f-350 5speed manual, it has a 3" lift with 35 inch tires, engine is all stock, tranny is being rebuilt right now, and im looking to increase my fuel mialage and increase my hp and tq. i want to be able to keep up with traffic and maybe race someone here or there lol but right now its not very fun losing all the time. What are some tips yall have and what could i do to gain some good hp and torque? looking for some ideas and im aslo thinkin about doin a custom snorkel air intake what do yall think?

Well since you are stock first i am going to ask how many miles are on the truck? Do you burn any oil? Something that newbies may not know is injectors and injectors pumps need to be replaced every 100k. They are built with tight tolerances and wear allowing incorrect fueling and over time may need to be timed. Installing new injectors and a pump most ppl think will decrease there mpg. But actually u get better fuel milage.

There is alot of people on here who who chime in and help you out on ordering parts for your truck. With 220k i bet your pump (if it is stock) is way way worn out and a new one would supprise you on the difference it would make. Look on your injection pump for a tag and see if it has a brand on it when you get around to it. Also see if it is the same color paint as your block

But if your willing to tweak your stock pump thus forum can help you with that as well. But i will ask that you get an egt gauge or this will be at your own risk. Anything over 1250 degrees and you will have melted pistons

If you are tight on money as far as ordering high dollar pumps and injectors i would recommend running diesel kleen in your fuel tank and keeping your oil changed every 2500-3500 miles and just wait it out. Some people actually prefer to run there old motor oil in there fuel. This actually will boost hp due to the hectare level and more lube it brings to the fuel. Many like burning 2 stroke oil as an additive. but i wouldnt put very much in your tank. Used motor oil or WMO needs to be filtered down to 1 or 2 microns and be de watered to be completely safe

I know of several pumps that will work on your truck. Are you looking to keep stock fuel levels and curvs? Would u be upgrading to a turbo soon? If so then that would have u looking at a turbo pump. You can get a very good pump from many people here.

Some people are selling turbo kits for these trucks used in good shape. And you could Evan keep your stock injection pump until it goes.

One of these older 7.3's will always have great mpg capabilities. And still not have all those electronics to mess with. An idi is so Much easier to understand and work on with your hands
