Tires on Expy's

Hi,
I was wondering if I could find someone with a stock height expy with 33x12.5 tires. If so, do they rub? And, if anyone has a picture of an expy NON-LIFTED with these sized tires, could you maybe show me some pics by email or something??? I am interested in bigger tires, but lifts are too expensive. Thanks for all your help.

What size rims do you have? If you've got 17's, then you don't have too many options. If you've got 16's, then we can go from there.

FYI - the usual size for an Expy is 265/70/17 which is essentially a 31x10.50x17. I think a 33 would fit ok - check to see how much clearance you've got (mainly up front - the fenders can get in the way).

Keep us posted.

What are you looking at, a 315/70/16 tire? I've always been told that these will fit a 4x4. I've got 285/75/16 that are the same height and an inch narrower and they fit my 4x just fine. If you think your truck is gutless now, just wait until you put on taller tires and change your gear ratio by 10%.

The Michelin and Bridgestone Tires I've used in the factory recommended size of 265/70-17 have all been 31.7 or 31.8 inches. I can't see why there would be a problem with a 33" tire as far as fender clearance. However, you can't go much wider in cross section or tread width without running into rubbing of the sidewall on lock to lock turns.

As noted previously in other posts, if you go to 33" you are going to upset the final drive ratio and not only lose power, but upset the odometer, speedometer calculations and lose their accuracy.

Ford tells me a tire circumference of .25 inches high or low is tolerated by the ABS and engine speed sensors so as not to cause problems in shifting braking, etc. Beware if you go much larger than that, there are side affects.
Hope this helps.
