2008 Escape issues...
Hey folks,
I have a 2008 XLT with the V6 two wheel drive.
Earlier this week the girlfriend stated while driving she would notice all the lights in the instrument cluster would light up and the gauges would drop to zero. This would happen for several seconds and return to normal. I have driven it a couple times since then and sure enough, intermittently this happens. At that point there is no other condition. The car is still running and driving fine while this is happening.
I haven't had a chance to look into it so she kept driving it.
Now after a few days of this happening she is experiencing it not starting from time to time. She says it'll start one time as normal and then next time she goes to start it she turns the key and nothing. She says she usually can get it started after the second or third try and when it finally starts it starts like there is no problem at all.
I haven't had time to look into it yet so here I am taking the first step, checking with you folks.

Ok, Checked the battery terminals, they're good. Where would the ground be? I can only assume there are a multitude of ground connections which could be loose.
I checked the battery voltage. In the morning, after it sat for more than 24 hours it read around 12.2 volts. After starting it and while running it reads around 14.6 volts. When I turn as many accessories on as I can it still reads around 14.6. Seemed pretty good to me but I took it to my buddy's house and he put his tester on it too. When I got there we put the tester on it while off, it read about 12.6. We then started it and while running it read, again about 14.6. He then put a load on it (his tester has this ability) and it stayed right there.
The battery and charging system seem to be fine.
I have been driving it a bit lately and have noticed, when all the dash lights go on and the gauges drop, I can give the dash a tap and it instantly goes back to normal. I have also noticed, when it doesn't start I can turn the key back to off, give the dash a tap and try it again and it starts right up.
Seems to be some sort of loose connection in the dash somewhere. Anybody know of a connection or condition in the dash that could cause the car to not only have the lights and gauges act up but the car not to start?
Thanks
PS...This is two different posts I posted from another forum I'm on so it may be worded funny...
